The first half of this game was good for the Hoyas. The Hoyas continue to play unselfish, confident, determined basketball. It doesn't matter what team they play they're going for it. The Hoyas outrebounded the Orangemen 24-10 in the first half. Otto Porter with nine rebounds. This young man looks like a man possessed out there. Hoya teammates contributing to the cause. Coach Thompson has thrown multiple players at Syracuse and has been successful in doing so. From a tip or steal all the Hoyas played a part.

It's such a beautiful sight to see the "determnation" and "sense of urgency" among the Hoyas. It's really amazing to see this. Coming out of the half Syracuse made an 8-0 run, but the Hoyas stayed poise and over come this dramatic series of baskets and crowd euphoria. The Hoyas maintained throughout the second half and came up short on a three point shot by Cuse vet Chris Joseph (Carroll High School).
"Kris bailed us out," said Boeheim. "Nobody else looked really comfortable shooting the ball. We really struggled offensively. We just didn't attack their zone. We couldn't really make much. We haven't seen a lot of zone, but that's not a good excuse. We play it every day in practice."

The Hoyas have so much to take away from this game. I think they know this, so it will continue to show in the very near future. There was great contribution from the team as a whole. Everyone that played - scored.

The Hoyas have nothing to hang their heads. They fought hard against the number two team in the land. I don't want to use the word young, but these Hoyas gave it all they had and played well as a team, and proved/showed to the world they are one of the best teams in the land. With Syracuse’s 64-61 victory on Wednesday night, Jim Boeheim earned his 880th win. Being third on the career wins list didn’t put Boeheim in a good mood. “I’m upset over this game right now, and I’ll address all that stuff when I retire,” Boeheim said. “I don’t think about those goals. I just want to play this season.”

We Not Slowing, Gotta Just Keep On Rolling Hoyas

"Nothing scares me about their team," Jardine said. We just have to come in a play Syracuse basketball, if we do that it'll be a great game, and I think we should get a win? Oh, okay, Scoop said, "should" not "will" get a win. Well well, something else to motivate our might Hoyas in tonight's matchup on the road in Syracuse. This game will become a battle of will of which team style of play will fair. Syracuse likes to get up and down the court in transition. This is what their best at. The Georgetown offense is a patient and thought oriented system. It definitely requires the opposing team to slow down and think on defense something that "some" teams are not used to.

Notre Dame and Cincinnati slowed the pace down against Syracuse with the Irish winning taking the shot clock down to under 10 seconds for nearly each possession and Cincinnati keeping the game close but loss to the Orangemen by seven points. What Syracuse knows is the Hoyas runs a methodical Princeton system similiar to Notre Dame's offense. "We moved the basketball," Boheim said. We just got really good shots down the court, and that was the best part for me of watching the second half, how "EASY?" (hopefully the Hoyas will make it "tough" for Cuse) we got the ball down and found people and found good shots."

So what does Coach Thompson III tell his team about the game tonight?

"We tell them we're going to face probably the best team in the country right now, a team that's multilayered in terms of their depth at every position," said Thompson, who guided the Hoyas to a 64-56 victory over Syracuse here a year ago, his first win in the Carrier Dome in six tries.
Coach Thompson's take on taking care of the ball on offense: "Being good on offense and not turning the ball over is a key to your defense against Syracuse," said Thompson, who is less concerned about how his players handle the atmosphere. The Hoyas have key wins this season at Alabama, Louisville, and, as Thompson pointed out, "Bayi Rockets," in China.

I had an great time watching the mighty Hoyas play and win in dominant fashion yesterday at the Verizon Center. Upon arrival of an unusual time game, I was amazed to see so many Hoyanation fans outside of the arena. Once inside the arena you can feel lots of energy thoughout. The Hoyas didn't miss a beat from the UConn game. Again, I hear folks talking about a trap, but they should know by now the Hoyas are on a mission so they're focused.

The Hoyas continued to play hard throughout the game and never let up. Amazing to the comraderie on the court and even the smile something Hoyanation has notice and are talking about. Something we haven't seen in some time.As a coach its great to how the Hoyas share the ball. They're a throw back from 30's & 40's believe or not. They're so fundamental. When the Georgetown offense is ran by those Hoyas it's a beatuiful sight to see.

We all know how tough the Big East conference is. Any day or night you could fall to any team in the Big East no matter what their record is, and most of the time it's very hard to get everyone in the game better yet all of your players in, but Hoyas' players were able to play. This is something we haven't since earlier during the season.

The Hoyas continue to play with a "sense of urgency." There was a great contribution from the whole team. I definitely thank the Hoyas coach staff for the hard work and preparation of our Hoya dream team. The defensive effort has been stellar which led to later baskets. "We felt we were getting stops, and we knew that the shots would start going in," Thompson said. "As long as we get stops and rebounds, we'll be able to score enough points."

We Must Stand Together

I look at both teams in warm ups before the game. The Hoyas were loose, energized and focused, but on the other hand UConn wasn't. This was another stellar performance at home for the Georgetown Hoyas. My goodness, what a game. The Hoyas came out in attack mode, and this opened up things up for the shooters. The Hoyas dominated the University of Connecticut Huskies last night to give them their fourth Big East conference loss in a row.

I would like to thank Coach Calhoun for the changes in his line up. Before the game, I told a few friends that the Hoyas would win simply because of this especially at the point guard position. I also a friend, Mr. Bozzo before the game in the lobby I got this funny feeling the Hoyas would win and they did. Boatright for Napier. Rhythm, rhythm, rhythm/chemistry whichever way you say it was gone down the drain.

To me this messed UConn's rhythm up and created some attitude problems among their players from what I was seeing. During warmups the Huskies did not look energized, the Hoyas did. The Hoyas were able to take full advantage of this in their defeat of the defending Big East conference and national champions. "We did respond really well," said Jason Clark, who scored 11 points for the Hoyas. "We know what we did wrong in the game to lose at Pitt. We didn't want the same thing to happen."

With the scored tied at 15 a piece junior forward Hollis Thompson nailed a three pointer at the 8:37 mark. Score 18-15 Hoyas. The two teams were going back and forth but neither scoring for almost four minutes until Tyler Orlander made a layup assisted by temmate Andre Drummond. Score 18-17 Hoyas.

Another lull set in for both teams after Huskie Tyler Orlander's made layup. For 4:10 seconds the Hoyas didn't make a basket. Hollis Thompson finally made a layup to put his team up 20-17 with 4:20 second to go until halftime. Thompson went on a tear from the 8:37 mark to the 3:50 minute where he made another three pointer from an assist from teammate Mikael Hopkins. Score 23-17 Hoyas.

Henry Sims was next to go on a tear before the half scoring six points in 1:29 seconds. With 2:11 seconds to go in the half Sims made a jumper. Score 27-19 Hoyas. I thought this was amazing for Henry. Through the bad calls, I thought Henry did a great job of keeping his head while he was out of the game. When I saw him going to the bench I was like, "he looks mad." I thought this was a positive sign for the big fella.

1:28 to go until the half Huskie Jeremy Lamb made two free throws. Score 27-21 Hoyas. At 1:17 Henry Sims make another layup. Score 29-21 Hoyas. Hollis Thompson stepped up to the plate again and scored a two point layup with 0:26 to go until the half. Score 31-21. This was score going into halftime.

The second half started with a lull until 17:22 to go once again, Hollis "Hollywood" Thompson came through with the delivery, another three pointer from an assist from senior leader Jason Clark. Score 34-21. Thompson made the next 3 points by 15:38. Score 37-25 Hoyas. Eight points is the closet the Huskies got to the Hoyas in the second half and the Hoyas went onto to defeat the Connecticut Huskies in "dominate fashion." The Hoyas defense was spectacular!

At times Coach Thompson III had four freshmen on the court along with one sophomore. This was great and I like the fact they all had their hands and arms up swaying back and forth, up and down. This rubbed off on the whole team as each teammate began to do this especially Henry Sims. Having his arms up and swaying the Hoyas got lots of tips just by simply doing this. Hoyanation, this was a sight to see. It surely reminded me of the past Hoya teams. Hands up!

The hustle, communication and smarts to dive for loose balls proved to be a factor and key posssession by Nate Lubick. Shout out to Jabril Trawick, Mikael Hopkins, Otto Porter, Greg Whittington and the rest doing their best. I like the way Markel Starks keeps trying, and he's still his position as the point guard.

This is a tough task to learn and he's fighting through it. His job description is lengthy. It's really more of a mental thing. Markel will be fine. Jason Clark's leadership is "phenomenal." Once again, a big shout out to the Hoyas coaching for believing in those young fellas and getting them to understand life through basketball. I'm so glad we have great people up there on the Hilltop because the Hoyas will rock and sock you until you drop. They are scrappy, tough, smart and determined and have something to prove. Just remember, the Hoyas have not forgotten.

Can't forget about Jason Clark's blazing speed past the whole UConn for the slam dunk. I was in awe of that dunk, and Henry Sim's dunk, wow, "one" of the best dunks in Hoyas history.

Let's Dig In Now Hoyas! Let's Goooooo!

Hoyanation this is one of those tough conference road losses where we have to move on. The Hoyas got behind very early and never took a lead in the first half. At one time with 2:49 to go in the first half the score was 31-14 in favor of the Panthers. By the end of the first half the Hoyas had dug themselves out of a hole they dug themselves into earlier in the half to pull within striking distance of ten points with the score 33-23 Panthers.

The second half was better for the Hoyas. They had more swag in their play and attitude. The Hoyas are as fighters on the basketball court they never give up. After Pitt's Nasar Robinson made a basket to start the second half put the score 35-22 Panthers 19:45. Henry Sims made a two point jump shot and Markel Starks hit a three pointer to make the score 35-27 with 18:55 in the game.

At 17:25 in the second half Henry Sims made a jumper from an assist by teammate Markel Starks to pull within six points of the Panthers 37-31. After a timeout called by the Panthers, Pitt guard Ashton Gibbs knocks a jumper from a Tray Woodall assist. Everytime the Hoyas pull within the Panthers pulled away. The closet the Hoyas got to the Panthers was within six points tonight. As we know life on the road ain't easy in the Big Easty! The Hoyas had a three game winning streak so they are fine. They will fix whatever it is they need to. Pack up and move on still have lots of games to play. Head up, chin up! Let's Roll! We got UConn next!

Hoyas have to go back and work on some things. "Both of those areas (rebounding and defense), we were awful," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said. "They got everything they wanted and when they didn't they got the rebound, and that's the difference."

Just a thought on point guard play I love to mention on point guard play. Point guards use speed on a "consistent" basis. Stay ready in triple threat position ready to attack at all times, Knowing when to push the rock and when to pull back run the play and attack if need.be. Control the tempo of the game. Good decisions by the score and time of the game. Opponent's in foul trouble. This is a great time to keep attacking and going to the line knocking down freebies.You basically have half of the game won on the line alone and some of their players are in foul trouble for the half and maybe later during the second half of the game. Just a coaching thought.

On the road to Pittsburgh the Hoyas go

No Sleep Hoyas!

Pittsburgh is 12-9 overall and 1-7 in the Big East. Pitt was 11-2 going into Big East conference play. I don't know what happened going into conference play for the Panthers. They've only won one game out of seven. It's definitely unusual for these losses to be piled up on Pitt, but hey who cares. I surely don't, but I do know their record right now means nothing to the Hoyas (16-3 6-2 BE) win or lose. They know there's one task at hand and that is to beat Pitt and to look at it this no other way. Stay focused! Yes!

The Panthers shot 49 percent from the floor (32 of 65) and made 55 percent (11 of 20) of their 3-pointers. One Panther the Hoyas have to look out for is Ashton Gibbs. Gibbs, the preseason Big East Player of the Year, has struggled mightily during Woodall's absence. Coach Jamie Dixon moved Gibbs to point guard when Woodall went down, and the burden has certainly affected his shot. Gibbs is on pace to set career lows in total shooting percentage, including 3-point shooting percentage, an extended slump his coach blamed on a heavy workload.

Now that Woodall has returned, the workload has lightened, and Gibbs showed flashes of his former brilliance during a spectacular stretch at the end of the first half. Part of the problem of Pitt's unsuccess in the conference was due to an injury from guard Trayvon Woodall. Trayvon Woodall added 17 points and nine assists in his second game back from groin and abdominal injuries as the Panthers won for the first time in five weeks.

Pitt just won their first conference game of the season and have some momentum going into their next home game against the mighty Georgetown Hoyas. The Hoyas look to put a quick stop on Pitt's chances at home in the Petersoen Events Center game being play in the Petersen's Event Center. Things haven't been looking at that good for the Panthers on the campus in the Peterson Events Center as of late.

Pittsburg Post-Gazette Ron Cook on the Panthers attendance at the Peterson Events Center this Big East season:

"Cook draws a larger conclusion from this information: Namely, that Pittsburgh is a tough pro sports town, that it's hard to gain traction as a college entity here, and once you have it -- as Pitt hoops obviously has -- all it takes is one losing season before the attendance starts to dry up. That's a shame, but it appears to be the reality. There also seems to be a trend of great student sections simply not showing up these days. Between the Zoo and the Cameron Crazies (who are struggling to get 700 kids in a 1,200-seat section some nights), so let's hope this doesn't become a thing. Of course, it's easy to turn up for a big game, or when your team is riding high in the Big East. It's a lot more difficult to show up and support your peers when they're struggling.

But if Pitt ever needed a rocking, rowdy, filled-to-the-rafters Peterson Events Center, that time is now."

So, this brings back to what I previously said about the Hoyas not feeding into the fact Pitt is 1-7 in conference play. On the other hand what the Hoyas will remember is the fact the Panthers have won 12 games. With their last and only win, so far in Big East play against the Friars, the Panthers are looking to up their fan base significantly because they know the mighty Hoyas are coming into town.

I definitely wanted to go over some things about our next foe. Good to know that the Hoyas will not take this team or any team with a losing record lightly. The Hoyas are ready and focused. They are fighters! Hoyasaxa!

Hoyanation Don't Stop Unitl You Get Enough!

All I can say is what a game. Very thrilling I must say. The Hoyas found a way to pull the game out and ended up with 52-50 win. Offensively for the entire game the Hoyas shot 12-41 29%, 21% 3-14 3ptrs. The stat that stood out to me was free throws 25-36 69%. At the half free throws were also the "highlight" on the stat sheet. Hoyas played some good inside/out basketball. I like how Jabril Trawick was feeding the ball into the post to Sims. He such a smart player as his teammaters are also. Greg Whittington's three pointer in the corner was classic. When I looked up at the scoreboard and saw the Hoyas still had 3 timeouts left with .21 seconds to go I knew they would find a way win. Definitely have to give the Hoyas coaching staff a shout out for those great decisions to get the win. Salute!

I had to chance to dap it up with Rutgers and former Hoyas assistant David Cox before the game. Definitely great seeing coaches Cox and Thompson shake hands before the game. I could see the emotion in his eyes as he left the genuine handshake from Coach Thompson before the game introductions, it was homecoming for him.

The Hoyas keep playing in these tough games and winning them only makes them tougher and experienced for what's to come. The Scarlet Knights and the Hoyas battled to the end. The game was fun for me. I saw (Jerseyhoya from Twitter) in the lobby of the phone at halftime and they asked me who was going to win, and I told him the Hoyas would win, but I also said the Hoyas had to play smarter and tougher. They did!

I don't really like to say freshman especially this time of the season, so I'll just say Otto Porter play a big role in the Hoyas win against Rutgers. Porter scored the final six points, including two free throws with 8.5 seconds left. "He is composed," Thompson III said. "Otto doesn't get rattled. He just plays the game." The Hoyas made the stops they need to make in the closing minutes of the game the intensity and defense picked up."Our defense won the game for us," Thompson said.

Henry Sims 12 pts. 10 rebs. 2 assist 1 stl. 3 blocks to lead the way for the Hoyas.

On the road, Hoyas jump out of the gates on DePaul in "attack mode" win 83-75

Hoyas Give It All You Got

Congratulations on the Hoyas second road win (15-4 5-2 Big East) and senior leader Jason Clark on scoring a career high (31 Pts, 5 Reb, 2 Ast, 4 Stl, 1 Blks). Wow, I was having a John Wall (Wizards38 pts.) flashback from the previous night. Both Wall and Clark did just about the same thing, attack the basket when needed. "I think it was just coming through our offense,” Clark said of his big scoring night. “I’ve been on a stretch where I haven’t been making a lot of 3-pointers but today they were falling.”

The Hoyas outrebounded DePaul 43-18 very impressive. The stat line showed the Hoyas shot over 50% for the whole game. 7-13 @ 53.8% from 3 point land. Shot free throws pretty good 16-28 @ 57.1% This is mark improvement from previous. I think it was due to the fact of the Hoyas playing inside/out and attack basketball. The Hoyas still turned the ball over 18 times. Turnovers for the Hoyas are still a concern. In basketball you're going to always have turnovers but you don't want those turnovers at crucial moments in the game. Last night's Blue Demon game turnovers did not have a major impact on the game, but could have, thank God they didn't (smile). To keep Jason's career high game in perspective Coach Thompson had this to say this, “I think we have versatile pieces. Obviously a lot of the duty did fall on Jason today. I thought he did, for the most part, a pretty good job but he also had some help.” One would have to love the Hoyas the coach's philosphy of team play and not singling out one player. It obvious of course Jason did his thing and score a career high, and that's a great accomplishment, but yet and still it's a team effort and the Hoyas still have many games left to play. This puts everything in perspective and keep the team focused one game at a time.

Team effort on behalf of the Hoyas continues to be at a high level. These Hoyas are on the same page for one goal!

Hoyas find a way to put the train back on the tracks with a 69-49 win over St. John's

Back to Life Hoyas!

Hoyas did that indeed. They found a way to get back on track. After struggling in the first half the Hoyas seemed determined not to make the same mistakes (crucial turnovers) they made in the previous game. The Hoyas were down by eight at the 12:17 mark.

They managed to tie the score 13-13 on a free throw made by Henry Sims at the 9:35 mark of the first half. After this mark in the first half the Hoyas stepped the rebounding and defense for the remainder of the first half. Freshmen Otto Porter had seven rebounds and one key steal. He's Otto-matic! His toughness is very high. Also, Greg Whittington had four big rebounds early on and eight for the entire game.. I thought they really stepped up in the first half. Score at the half 25-19 Hoyas. Hoyas outrebounded St. John's 41-29.

The second half for the Hoyas was much better offensesively and defensively. Good, quick ball and player movement on the offensive end and good put backs by Gregory Whittington. He was on high alert and clearly in attack mode on both sides of the court.

The Hoyas could use this every night in Whittington he has so many weapon. My take is your the Player of the Year in the DMV, means man you got crazy game and you're the best now just put and keep it on display and live your dream everyday.

Hollis "Hollywood" Thompson scoring picked up in the second half. All great shooters are mentally tough keep their confidence level no matter what the score is. With better ball movement (zip passes) I think Hollis loves best he can can rapidly catch and shoot or rapidly catch, dribble pull up, knock down.

"Coming out of halftime you have to say 'Well, none have dropped but I have confidence in my shooting and if the last ones haven't dropped that means I got one coming soon,' " said Thompson, who leads the Big East in 3-point shooting at 52.4 percent.

"Hollis didn't realize he was 0-for. That's what makes him a good shooter," the coach said.

The two seniors Jason Clark and Henry Sims held it steady on the court for Hoyas. They were the stablizers. Their team fed off of their leadership. They are as one. It's truly amazing to see the the team bond. When you think about it this is phenomenal.

I still hear folks talking man we should've of beating St. John's by a larger margin etc. One thing I have to tell them and something that've I read that I would like to remind them of. "I'm going to give you a cookie-cutter answer but it's true, every game in this league is big," said John Thompson, whose team plays at DePaul on Tuesday. "Obviously, just emotionally, you don't want to lose three in a row and then have to go back on the road again. Wins in this league on the road are hard to come by and every night is a dogfight. Every night you have to scrape. So, this was a big game in that regard." Every game in the Big East is TOUGH, every game. I think we've read so much about this great conference over years.

Hoyanation, the Hoyas are back "Back to Life" from here on out, "one game at a time!"

Once again these are some instances of the Hoyas, again, showing they have each other's back something I think the Hoyas are perfecting more and more as the season goes forward. When one players is not playing well or struggling the others step up. This is the beauty of the game of basketball and the Hoyas.

Hoyas "turnovers" tell the tale of a 68-64 loss to the Bearcats

WE'RE NOT GONNA FALL NOW HOYAS!

TURNOVERS! Not good at all. After coaching basketball for so many years "turnovers" especially "unforced turnovers" would drive me CRAZY! Well, it's really hard for me to get over giving away something that's so dear to you on the basketball court and you lose. I have no problem with TO's, that's a part of the game, but the problem I have is turning the ball over too many times where it cost your team the game. It's almost like you say, "here's the ball visitors have at it." I know the Hoyas didn't mean to turn the ball over so many times as it cost them the game, but I can tell you this is another lesson they can learn from.

I'm not taking anything away from the Bearcats, but this game was ours and we gave the game away. "We cannot turn the ball over like that," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said. "That was the ball game. You've got to give them credit, but then after you do that, most of our turnovers were what I call unforced turnovers. ... It was just us not being good passers, not being good receivers."

When you have two big losses in conference play there's some things you have to go back and do as a team. Hoyas coach John Thompson III said losing back-to-back games in conference play should make everyone assess their play. “You have to go back and do some introspection from top to bottom,” he said. “You just have to keep moving forward and keep getting better.”

Some little reminders, if a team shoots a jumper and misses push the rock all the way to the basket. Don't let the defense set. Attack the basket "consistently" because if you don't you will let your opponents back in the game. Guards have to dribble low. Why? They can move fast and the ball is harder to steal. My team has to say to them to themselves, "this is our ball, take care of it, no turnovers, go get it, IT'S OURS!"

Senior G Jason Clark said it was important for the team to not let the feeling of losing permeate the squad. “We can’t fall into the rhythm of losing,” he said. “We can’t start pointing fingers. We know what makes us good, and we’ve got to get back to those things.

I remember well. The last time the Hoyas (13-2 3-1 Big East) played the Cincinnati Bearcats (12-4 2-1 Big East) the :Hoyas and Hoyanation took a hard lost 58-46 on February 23, 2011. The bigger loss, however, came by the way of Chris Wright's broken left hand, which he suffered early in the second half of this game.

The Hoyas are coming off of road loss of their fourth conference game against West Virginia. Not having key players - senior's Jason Clark and Henry Sims on the floor for most of the first half due to foul trouble took some momentum away. Some of the Hoyas 15 turnovers were at "key points" during the game. The Hoyas kept fighting until the end with freshman F Greg Whittington hitting a three pointer with .46 which brought the Hoyas within six. Score 66-62, Mountaineers.

The Bearcats are coming off of a two point loss to a short handed tough St. John's team. Bearcat G sophomore Sean Kilpatrick and senior G Dion Dixon lead their team in scoring.

"Our attention to detail, particularly on the defensive end, was not where it was supposed to be," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said. "Most of it was our turnovers. They got a lot of easy baskets off our turnovers." I think as long as the point guard/guards attack the basket and play inside out this should get things back on track.

My game strategy as always is to "attack" right from the start of the game especially the bigs in the paint - to get them into early foul trouble right away. This will get my team in the bonus (7 team fouls) to go shoot free throws. We win the first half on the free throw line. Same thing with the second half.

It's all about playing smart from start to finish, but we have to recognize who's in foul trouble and to go at them. This indeed will cut down on turnovers especially at crucial ppoints in the game. Guards have to look up at the scoreboard or ask their stat person who's in foul trouble on the visiting team. Normally, they should be able to look up at the scoreboard to see this.

The Hoyas are "regrouping and refocusing" on tomorrow's Big East matchup at home against the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Hoyas drop first conference game on the road to West Virginia 72-64

Never easy in the Big Easy, no Big East. Hoynation our Hoyas (13-2 3-1 Big East) fell to the Mountaineers (12-4 3-1) 72-64. Early on in conference play, it looks like it'll be race to the finish line. Senior Jason Clark (10 pts. 3 rbs. 2 ast.5 stl. 2 blk.) got in early foul trouble in the first half only playing 29 minutes tonight. Junior Hollis Thompson (20 pts. 5 rb. 2 stl. 1 blk.) led the Hoyas in scoring. He played at total of 37 minutes.

In the first half the Hoyas had 11 turnovers and only 4 in the second half. Only shooting 16% in three pointers (2-14 for whole game) in the first half didn't help matters out either, but the Hoyas were within two points at the half 29-27. The Hoya bench stepped it up a bit in the second half scoring (14 points total). Freshman Jabril Trawick (6 pts.) lead the bench in scoring and good defense and smart play. Freshman Otto Porter (4 pts. 6 rbs.) In 19 minutes freshman Greg Whittington had (4 pts.).

West Virginia shot 50%, the Hoyas 40.4% in field goals. Although it was a tough game on the road for the Hoyas I like the fact that they never gave up. Eleven game winning streak ended, so what great unexpected run by them young Hoyas. They'll start another streak, and hopefully streak to the finish line how's that!

Don't worry Hoyanation we'll get them Mountaineer's back when it really matters. The Hoyas will quickly "regroup." Don't we owe them one from the Big East Tourney. That game made me tear up, but I'm just patiently waiting for that rematch in the Big East Tourney. I know it's a ways from now, but that's just my vision. The Hoyas know they cannot hang their heads, they are looking forward to Monday night against Cincinnati. That's where the focus is because WE ARE GEORGETOWN!

It's GAMEDAY Hoyanation! The #9 Hoyas (13-1 3-0 Big East) take on the Mountaineers (11-4 2-1 Big East). The Hoyas are coming off another "thrilling" 73-70 win over Marquette. Forward Hollis "Hollywood" Thompson (16 pts. 3 rbs. 2 ast.) put on another "lights out" shooting performance hitting the game winning three ball late in the second quarter against the Golden Eagles. Asked to describe that last, pivotal shot,Hollywood Thompson said: "Um, I mean, I was open, and my teammates found me." Then he paused before adding: "Honestly, I don't remember."

"We've said this in jest, but it's true: Hollis' confidence is always flowing. And our confidence in him is always going," said Georgetown coach John Thompson III, who's not related to the junior forward. "We run a play to get him a shot, it goes in, and then his teammates were coming down the court, (saying), 'Let's do this, let's do that,' trying to get him shots."

West Virginia won their last game giving Rutgers their second Big East loss of the season. The Mountaineers one loss in the (BE) comes from Seton Hall. "I couldn't get a look the other night," Bryant said. "I just had 34 against Villanova the game before, so they knew not to give me a look. Every open look I got, I didn't make it.

"I think (the Seton Hall loss) was just a lack of focus by our whole team, and especially me coming out not ready to play. Tonight, we came out ready to play." Darryl Bryant led his team with 29 pts. Kevin Jones 14 pts. 14 rebounds in last win. 15 points came from the bench but only from two players. Mountaineer bench could be a non-factor in game against the Hoyas.

All I can say Hoynation and friends is WOW! After the Georgetown game I asked someone in the Verizon Center (phone booth), "did you see what just happened?" Their response was, "yes, we won!" My response back to them was, "this was more than a win, this was a major statement game buddy." In the first half I said to myself, "this seems like a toe to toe boxing match - the two teams were trading blows (baskets) like the Ali and Frazier fight back in the day."

Marquette (12-3, 1-1 Big East) led 43-29 at halftime and stretched that edge to 56-39 on freshman guard Todd Mayo's 3-pointer with 13:10 left. Todd is also the younger brother of NBA player O. J. Mayo.

It was unbelievable what I was witnessing from start to finish especially watching the Hoyas stepped up their defense and chiped away at the score by attacking the basket in the second half with plenty of time remaining in the game. "I guess we just felt like we were being embarrassed. We were getting embarrassed," Clark said. "So the second half, we just wanted to turn it up defensively, and our defense turned into our offense."

I knew the Hoyas (13-1, 3-0 Big East) would stage a comeback because of the leadership of both senior's Jason Clark (26 pts. 5 Reb, 1 Ast, 1 Stl) and Henry Sims was was an awesome 5-6 in field goals made (13 pts. 5 ast., 5 reb. 2 blks. 2 stls.), he also shot 3-4 from the free throw line. Freshman guard Jabril Trawick came off the bench to provide a defensive spark for the mighty blue and gray.

The "intensity" Jabril brings is "crazy" (one of Jabril's favorite words). He is one tough and gritty player. Love his passion and high IQ of the game of the basketball. I really like how he plays within himself and doesn't force many as the case with most freshmen. This young man is "awesome."

All four freshman Hopkins, Porter, Trawick and Whittington scored a combined (16 pts.), Whittington's defense was spectacular also. Freshman F Otto "OTP" (Other Teams Problem) Porter (8 pts. 5 reb. 3 ast. 2 stl. 1 blk.) he also shot 4-5 in field goals made.

Junior F Hollis Thompson (16 pts. 3 reb. 2 ast.) 6-7 in field goals made, shot 3-5 from three point range. Again, Thompson proved he was Mr. Dramatic knocking down "dagger shots" in key points of the game especially near games end. Thompson's first three ball was made at 3:19 on a assist from freshman Greg Whittington (2 pts. 1 ast. 1 reb. 1 stl.). Score 66-64 Marquette. At 2:27 Hollis made a two pointer to tie the score 66-66. Henry Sims scored on "sweet honey dip layup" to put the Hoyas up 68-66.

At the 1:37 mark Golden Eagles Davante Gardner made a layup on an assist from teammate Jae Crowder to tie the score up 68-68. At 1:11, Jason Clark scored two points on an assist from fellow teammate Henry Sims to take the lead again 70-68. With just .46 seconds left in the game, Marquette's Junior Cadougan knock down a jumpshot to tie the game 70-70. With .22 seconds to Hoya Hollis "Hollywood" Thompson knocked down a three pointer to take the lead 73-70 for good. Hoyas win, Hoyas win, Hoyas win. My my my what a game! Next stop West Virginia! Third game of the Big East conference. Loving every second of it. Hoyanation. So many of the little things that add up to the big picture being done by the Hoyas. From rebounding, diving for loose balls, communicating, point communication, overcoming adversity you name it they've been doing a "steady" job of it..

With the Hoyas hitting single digits in the polls and everyone talking, they remain focused and determined as ever and not worried about rankings. As Coach Thompson III said earlier in the season, "the rankings are "a popularity contest," something the Hoyas are simply not concerned with. Winning is all that matters at this point. "It's important to just keep getting wins, no matter what," senior guard Jason Clark said after the game, echoing his coach.

The Hoyas are coming off of a "gritty" 49-40 win over the Providence Friars on New Year's Eve. Senior G Jason Clark (16 pts.8 rebs.) lead the Hoyas in scoring. Freshman sensation F Otto Porter (6 pts. 12 rebs.) had a "glaring outting on the boards in this game." “Rebounding is always very important,” said Porter, who is averaging a team-best 6.6 rebounds per game. “When we rebound good, I think we’re going to be a pretty decent team.”

Coach Thompson had this say about the Providence game, "This was just an ugly game," Thompson said. "We went for a long period when we weren't scoring, so you just have to figure out how to get stops, you have to figure out how to get rebounds."

“At some points in the game they were playing hard than us,” Clark said. They were getting 50-50 balls and they just played harder than us.” But, the senior captain added, “we stayed together.”

Meanwhile, the Marquette Golden Eagles are coming off a 81-77 win at home over Villanova after a blowout loss to Vanderbilt. Senior Golden Eagle G Darius (24 pts.) lead his team in scoring for this game. "Everybody was down on themselves after the loss, just trying to figure out ways for us to get better," Johnson-Odom said. "And that's what we did the next day. We did a lot of drills, a lot of five-on-five drills and a lot of competing.

"We just have to get back to playing hard, and I think we did that today."

"They're a good team, a real good team," Wright said, calling Johnson-Odom "a hell of a player."

"They do a great job of finding him in transition and he does a great job being patient and waiting for the ball to get to him in the offense," Wright said. "I thought we did a better job (on him) in the second half. But that first half run he had -- that was a killer." Marquette has only one win against a ranked opponent, the Wisconsin Badgers, who were ranked seven when the two teams met on December 3.

First off Happy Hoyalidays and Happy New Year! We earn ours period! May be pretty some nights, may be rough some nights, but that's when you get "tougher" physically and mentally then dig in and grind the game out second by second. Keeping that confidence up through adversity proved to be key in the mighty Hoyas 49-40 win over the Providence Friars at home on New Years Eve. This is a conference where the game is played inside out and won on the foul line. Attack mode is on high alert at all times. "You get em down, keep em down." Easy to say in the Big East huh. Think again, the other team wants to win to. Hands up!

The Hoyas (12-1 2-0 BE) came blazing out of the gates in the first half. At 1:50 the score was 27-13 in favor of the Hoyas. At 1:47 of the first half Providence (11-4 0-2) went on a 6-0 run, score 29-17 at the half.

The tide started changing in the second half. After a Friar full timeout with the score in favor of the Hoyas 35-30 at the 13:27 mark the Hoyas missed a jump shot and Providence grabbed the rebound went down the court and Friar G Vincent Council knocked down a three pointer, score 35-32 with 12:34 to go. Score was finally tied with eight minutes to go in the game. The score remained 35 all from the 8:01 mark until 7:24 Hoya senior Jason Clark made a layup to put the score at 37-37.

The rest of the game was physical. It was about who's the toughest! Towards the six minute mark the Hoyas' rebounding kick in. Afterwards, they were able to get senior C Henry Sims
( 11 pts. 2 assts.) the ball in the post. He was fouled byFriar Brice Kofane and went to the line to knock down two critical free throws at the 6:14 minute. Score, Hoyas 39-35. Freshman Otto Porter (6 pts. 12 rbs. in 33 mins.) made got a key defensive rebound at 5:59. Sims shot a jumper and missed got his own rebound and made a layup at 5:32. Score Hoyas 41-35. Again, Otto was everywhere! Everybody played a part in one way or another.

Providence would not go away. Providence junior guard Vincent Council came down a made a three point shot. Score 41-38, Hoyas. Off of a Hoya missed layup, Providence scored two more points. Score 41-40 Hoyas. Georgetown timeout! 4:23 to go in game. Great timing to call a timeout! After the timeout the Hoya shot a and missed a jump shot, but again,Otto Porter, brought his lunch pail and he proved to be a major factor in this game with a "save the day rebound" of a Sims miss. Porter then scores two points on a layup. Score 43-40. Thank God and the Hoyas staff for having to this young man Otto Porter attend Georgetown including the rest of the Hoyabunch.

From 4:06 to 1:07 the score remained deadlocked at 43-40 Hoyas. Jason Clark did grab a key rebound. His leadership was so valuable today. "This was just an ugly game," Thompson said. "We went for a long period when we weren't scoring, so you just have to figure out how to get stops, you have to figure out how to get rebounds."

Afterwards, Sims was fouled by Kadeem Batts, he made first free throw to put the score 44-40, missed second. With the score still 44-40, the relentless rebounding freshman sensation Otto Porter grabbed another key, (perhaps the biggest rebound of the game) rebound with 1:07 remaining in the game, and sophomore point guard knocking down a crucial jump shot with .45 seconds to go in the game. Score 46-40. "Otto made the plays that you have to make to win games," Thompson said. "And it was glaring today."

After a Friar turnover, it was all she wrote, as Markel Starks picked up the tab (steal) and assisted fellow guard Jason Clark for two points. Score 48-40, Hoyas. Senior Jason Clark ends the game on the foul line for the Hoyas making a free throw. Score 49-40, Hoyas. Game Over! Good "gut check game!" Hoyas are tough!

Two Christmas gifts from the Hoyas! I hope everyone is having a great holiday season. One more game for the holiday season on Christmas Eve what a better way to end the Hoyaliday season with a win against Providence.

The Hoyas in their first Big Conference game are coming off of a big road win against Louisville. The Hoyas stepped their game up knowing it's conference time. Georgetown is enjoying its longest run since an 11-game streak Jan. 17-Feb. 24, 2007. The Hoyas won 30 games that season before losing to Ohio State in the Final Four.They have continued to play smart, unselfish, determined basketball.

Three freshmen reserves combined for 25 points in Wednesday's 71-68 upset at previously unbeaten No. 4 Louisville. "You say freshman class, and they are freshmen and this is their first Big East experience, but they've been doing that since the summer," coach John Thompson III said. "It's a group that plays hard and competes."

The Providence Friars are coming off of a big 91-67 loss to St. John's in their last outing on the road. Providence, which has dropped 16 straight conference road games, is seeking to recover after its seven-game win streak was snapped in its Big East opener, a 91-67 loss at St. John's on Tuesday. The Red Storm shot 56.5 % the worst mark allowed by the Friars all season. So, we all know the story, Providence will be coming out fired up, but one thing I do know, the Hoyas will come out "more" fired up than the Friars because they already know the deal. It's Big East play!

Hoyanation and friends, the Louisville Cardinals (11-1...0-1) are no longer undefeated! The Hoyas (11-1...1-0) broke Louisville's win streak at home tonight in "confident fashion" for their first Big East Conference win of the 2011-2012 season. What a game it was.

The Hoyas are definitely a team that fights! This team has a bond. Great to see the reserves get a shot and take advantage. They look fully aware of what time of the season it is and folks still call them freshmen. Yes, technically, they are freshmen, but not on the court. They seem to know they are basketball players that work hard on and off of the court. Very unselfish play, comraderie is great.

The way this teain handled adversity was a sight to see. I have "consistently" seen this from the Hoyas. The Hoyas stepped their game up in the first half when Jabril Trawick (9 pts.) made a three point jumper assisted by teammate Greg Whittington (2 rebounds) (4-5 ft's) at the. Smart, tough play by Trawick. Dick Vitale gave Trawick lots of respect tonight said,"he's a tough kid from Philly."

Markel Starks (20 pts.) put on a shooting exhibition tonight for Georgetown shooting (4-4) from three point land.“When you’re in the heat of the battle you’re just playing in the flow of the game, shots are going to come,” Starks said. “Whether you make them or miss them, those are shots you’ve got to be able to take. I took them and they were able to fall.”

It's great to see the Hoyas have each other's back. This team has got it together.All of them played their hearts from the seniors to the freshman. “It was a very good, big win against a very good team in a difficult place to play,” Georgetown coach John Thompson III said. “We aren’t worrying about validation right now.”

Otto Porter (14 pts.) also had a "crazy" 14 rebounds. Otto is everywhere! I call Otto (Other Teams Problem - OTP). Well, he is! I can other coaches in the league, "yeah that kid Porter, yeah he's a problem." They're right, he's OTP! Definitely great to see everyone contribute, great to see staff on the Hoya bench cheering their troops on. One could only imagine how Hoyanation looked as this thing of beauty too place tonight. It was such delight to see the Hoyas fight fight fight! The Hoyas a "tough mob!" Otto seems to be everywhere on the court!

Coming off of a second win over the Memphis Tigers. "It's always good to beat a team two times in a row. That's the type of game we're going to be playing when we get into the BIG EAST so this will boost our confidence." - Jason Clark The Hoyas (10-1 0-0) are back in action for their first Big East Conference matchup of the 2011-2012 season against undeafeated Louisville Cardinals (12-0 0-0).

The Hoyas have taken games step by step and have fared pretty well so far this season and hope to keep it going on the road at Louisville. “They are one of the best teams in the country and that’s one of the most difficult places to play,” he said. “They have a lot more energy at home than on the road.” - Coach John Thompson III

Hoya senior Jason Clark (15.7 pts.) had this to say about entering Big East conference play against the Cardinals. “This is where everything gets real,” he said. “We’re ready to go. I can tell guys are ready for conference play.” The fact still remains the Hoyas are "focused" and "determined" and know they still have "some things to prove and unfinished business" to take care of "one game at a time."

Louisville's last outing was a struggle against Western Kentucky."I don't have to tell you guys we didn't play good basketball tonight," coach Rick Pitino said following his Cardinals' 70-60 victory over Western Kentucky on Friday night. "But we haven't been playing good basketball the last three games."

According to Cardinal point guard and teammate Peyton Siva on sophomore reserve Russ Smith, "He makes some mistakes coming off the bench but his energy and his hard work are paying off." "He's winning us games on just pure intensity, pure heart," Pitino said of the 6-foot sophomore guard. "He's the reason we're winning but we've got to get the rest of the guys playing like that."

First off, I'm looking at this game as if we haven't played Memphis at all this year. Why? Simple. I have to stay focused on this game. Hey, the Hoyas have a chip on the shoulder, and they have "something to prove."

In their last meeting the Hoyas (9-1) used their size against Memphis (6-4), setting up senior C Henry Sims in the post on a designed play. Though his man fell down, thanks in part to some contact on the low block, Sims' shot was off the mark. Freshman F Greg Whittington was there, though, and followed with a tip-in to tie the game.

Memphis had the final shot, but was unable to find a good shot. After Joe Jackson dribbled around the perimeter for a moment with time winding down, he found a wide-open Adonis Thomas. Of course, Thomas was open because he was 26-feet from the basket, and his buzzer-beater never had a chance.
After 40 minutes of play, the Hoyas and Tigers headed to overtime in the Maui Invitational with the score tied at 78.

In overtime, Georgetown was able to open up a three-point lead, only to see it disappear as Memphis made a run to take the lead. A Jason Clark three turned out to be the difference, though, as Georgetown sealed the win at the line while holding off the Tigers.

Memphis' last-second three to tie was short, and Georgetown capped its Maui trip with a huge win over the top-10 Tigers. "It was really frustrating, because we didn't play our best ball," Will Barton said. "We regrouped and got ourselves together then we come here in our last game and we just came up short."

"Tonight we made plays as opposed to making mistakes at key points, so hopefully that's growth for this group." - Coach Thompson

Memphis' last game was played Monday night at home against Lipscomb where they shot 56.9 percent for the game (33 of 58) compared to 44.4 percent (28 of 63) for Lipscomb. Both teams took care of the basketball, the Tigers committing nine turnovers, while the Bison had only five.

Senior G Jason Clark welcomed the challenge on Thursday night of finishing the nonconference slate with a talented team like Memphis instead of a lower-tier opponent. “I would definitely have this game last,” he said. “It’s a huge test and games from here on out are going to be like this one.

Jason Clark after first Memphis win this season: We're getting better," Clark said. "I think we responded well after the loss after Kansas. I think everybody's starting to pay a lot more attention to what we need to do on the court."

American (8-4) came out aggressive and took advantage of the Hoyas (9-1) slow start, but the Hoyas got things rolling in the second half. "Clearly, that was two very different halves. Georgetown came out in the second half and came right at us and obviously, we didn't respond very well," Jones said. "We didn't have an answer." The second half was "all inside the paint affair" which was outstanding and smart. It was a thing of beauty the way the Georgetown offense was ran today.

Three Hoyas scored in double digits. Sophomore point guard Markel Starks (18 pts.) lead his team in scoring tonight shoting 6-8 and 4-6 in 3 pointers. Some of Starks shots made were "money shots" well needed to lift his team up. Senior C Henry Sims (17 pts. 6 assists) right behind in scoring - shot 7-10. Sims continues to put his precise passing on display."Teammates were cutting hard," Sims said, "so my job was to give them the ball." Good to see all the freshman on the court at one time. Everyone played and scored with exception of two players.

Off the bench for the Hoyas freshman Otto Porter (8 pts. 2 asst. 10 rbs.). The Hoyas outrebounded the Eagles (31-19). Also, the Hoyas won the assist battle also with 18-12. I see so many "consistent" and "postive" things from the Hoyas. This is a good sign, but we know it's about "one game at a time".

Now the focus is on Memphis again! I can't wait! "Two times is better than one".

Next game is against Patriot Conference's American University Eagles (8-3). These two teams know each other well from playing in the Kenner Summer league at Georgetown's McDonough Gymnasium..

The two teams last met in December 2009 with the Hoyas winning 73-46. Hoyas Senior G Jason Clark set a career high with 5 steals and 9 points in 32 minutes. Former C Greg Monroe (Detroit Pistons) set a career high of 13 rebounds and 12 defensive rebounds. That was the 7th double digit rebound game of Monroe's career. Hoyas C Henry Sims (4-7) had 13 points, 4 rebounds in 12 minutes, F Hollis Thompson 5 points in 19 minutes in the 2009 meeting.

The Eagles are coming off of a 66-61 road loss against St. Francis in Pennsylvania. After losing their first two games the Eagles went on a eight game winning streak, but the winning streak ended in a loss to St. Francis of Pennsylvania 66-61. The Hoyas (8-1) last game against crosstown foe Howard U was a lesson well learned. With a team as young as Hoyas - a total of 10 freshman and sophomore Coach Thompson wanted to see them get out of the jam by themselves. They did.

Playing its first game this as a ranked team, Georgetown held Howard scoreless for nearly 10 minutes at the start Saturday, then staved off a strong comeback bid before dominating down the strech to win 62-48 behind freshman Otto Porter's 13 points. "They've got to figure some things out on their own. We can call a timeout, but I wanted to see who was going to step up, who was going to talk, who was going to try to make adjustments on their own," Coach Thompson said.

"I mean, yes, we can go debate the nuances of whether that's a good coaching move or not. But this group needs to figure out at certain point of the game. "Ok we need to handle this. We need to talk about this. We need to grow up. Because they know what we should do," Coach Thompson said.

The Hoyas quickly grew up once again. Another test from a different angle. They handled it well when they need to. So, "What Rocks" more than that..

Hoyanation, the Hoyas (8-1) came out of the gates very fast using lots of pressure defense and scoring at will in transition. At the half the score was 30-17 in favor of the Hoyas. From the 8:10 to 5:25 mark the Hoyas hadn't scored. Freshman F/C Mikael Hopkins (3 pts.) knocked down a free throw to make the score 24-10. It took the Hoyas a minute to put up two more points. Senior G Jason Clark ( 12 pts. 10-10 from the ft line) was fouled and made both free throws. Score26-10 with 4:36 to go before the half.
Howard (3-6 1-1 MEAC) went on a four point run to make the score 26-14.

The Hoyas remained scoreless for 2 more minutes until freshman F Otto Porter (14 pts. 6-11, 4 rebs.) scored two points to make the score 28-14 with 2:33 to go before halftime. Sophomore PG Markel Starks (5 pts.) made the next two points at the 1:03 to make the score 30-14. Howard scored two points and was fouled made free throw to end the half 30-17 Hoyas.

Howard's Dadrian Collins came out in the second half knocking down a three pointer to pull within 10 points of the Hoyas 30-20. From then on in the second half the Bison hung around to pull within 4 points off of a jumper made by Howard's Simuel Frazier 34-30 with the Hoyas still leading. At 12:20 Freshman F Otto Porter came right back for two score 36-30 Hoyas.

From the 11:20 to 9:23 the Hoyas hadn't scored. Finally, Bison Simuel Frazier fouled Jason Clark, he knocked down two free throws 42-34 Hoyas. From then on it was bump and grind for both teams. The Hoyas continued to go straight to the basketball no matter what it took. This was determination and toughest on display. I definitely felt it.

Hoya freshman G Jabril Trawick fouled Bison Mike Phillips - he went to the line and knocked down two free throws. Score 36-32 Hoyas. Sophomore F Nate Lubick makes a big put back on a miss by teammate Markel Starks, Hoyas 38 Howard 32, 11:24 minutes to go in the game. Otto Porter's big steal and dunk at 6:19 inthe second half is the "jumpstart" the Hoyas need to win the game. A timeout was called by Howard. Score 46-38. 2:46 was an "amazing" play made by point guard Markel Starks in transition with a "slick behind the back pass" to forward Otto Porter.

The crowd raised up in a loud roar! You know I did too. (Get up Get up Wave Your Hands!) Going inside for the rest of the game and Howard fouling put the Hoyas on the line, and they were able to knock down critical free throws to put their team up for good. Good decision making with game on the line. Poise and smart play until the end were some of the good things on display. One thing about the Hoyas, never lost their lead. Hoyapride was on the line and it took over. Yessssssss!

The ability to overcome adversity played the biggest part in the win today for the Georgetown Hoyas. This game was a good gut check and wake up call. Life lessons. Learning to keep your head up through storm whether it be in life or on the playing field.

BTW: One thing I did notice is how much Howard Coach Kevin Nickleberry looks and sounds exactly like Comedian Kevin Hart. Too funny!

Feels good to be back after a week Hoyanation and friends. Next up for the Hoyas (7-1) are the Bisons (3-5) of Howard University here in the nation's capital. Howard plays in the Mid Eastern Atlantic Conference. Both teams are coming off of wins, but the Hoyas are boasting a record of only one loss while the Bisons have five losses. Howard senior guard Calvin Thompson (11.3 pts.) is the team leader in scoring. Hoyas senior guard Jason Clark (16.8 pts.) leads his team in scoring.

Freshman Otto Porter (8.1 rebs.) leads the Hoyas in rebounding, and senior C Henry Sims (3.9 assists & 12 blks.) leads the team in assists and blocks. The last time these two teams met was 2004-05 season in which Georgetown won 79-56. The Bison will be missing two of their most promising players, transfers Tre Lee and Glen Andrews, are not eligible until the spring semester.

Everyone seem to be on the same page playing great unselfish, team basketball. “Everyone knows what’s expected of them and is comfortable,” he said. “We have a group that believes in how we’re doing things.” - Coach John Thompson III

With all due respect, on behalf of the college basketball rankings - Hoyanation, which I don't think the Hoyas are paying much attention to in order to stay focused in game by game mode. Keep Rising To The Top Hoyas!

Hoyanation, I always ask myself who are the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Highlanders when I see them in the newspaper playing other Division 1 teams. So, after doing a bit of research here it is. They are a public research university. Where? Located in an area known as University Heights, formerly known as the Newark Highlands in Newark, New Jersey.

Where did they the sports teams name from? While classified under the former location, NJIT’s mailing address used to be High Street, until it was renamed in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This reference to NJIT’s past is what brought about the mascot The Highlander.

It is often also referred to as Newark College of Engineering which was the official name of the university between 1919–1975. A school comprised of 16 sports teams 9 mens sportsteams, 6 women sports teams.

The Highlanders (3-3) ride into D.C. to take on the "something to prove" Hoyas (6-1). The Hoyas are coming off of a big win against #12 Alabama. Although I did consider the Hoyas two wins against ranked opponents an "upset," it was a great accomplishment for the Hoyas and Hoyanation. I did! (confident voice)

Hoya senior G Jason Clark (17.7 pts.) and junior F Hollis Thompson (14.3 pts. 6.1 rebs.) lead the Hoyas lead the Hoyas in scoring, Hollis also leads the team in rebounding. Highlanders are coming off a one point win over Army, so they have some momentum coming into the phone booth (Verizon Center) on Saturday.

Senior Highlander G Isaiah Wilkerson (15.7 5.5 rebs.) leads his team in scoring. I thnk the Hoyas will stay in their "something to prove" mode with a "sense of urgency" because they know they have a long ways to go. This is why the Hoyas take things "one game at a time." Shine!

Hoyanation and friends, I can honest say I am not suprised at what the Hoyas (6-1) have accomplished, but I can say I'm AMAZED at what I'm seeing for so many reasons. I've been writing about what I saw in the Hoyas since the summer in the 2011 Kenner League especially the freshmen.

No fear and something to prove. Once again, Hoya senior leader G Jason Clark (22 pts. 7-11 field goals, 4-7 3's 4-4 free throws) proved just what he is. A "born leader". His leadership has surely put the doubters on hold. The Hoyas gave Alabama (7-1) their first loss of the season and broke the Tide's four game winning streak.

There's one of many things I like about Georgetown the developing and maturing of the players from young men to men. I think this is awesome. It's always been like this and is a joy to see. Senior C Henry Sims (13 pts. 3 rebs. 3 assists 2 steals 1 blk) continued his stellar play for the Hoyas.

With time running out in the game Jr. F Hollis "Hollywood" Thompson (12 pts. 8 rebs.) proved to be the saviour of the game knocking down a "prayer three point shot" that was delivered on a pass from teammate Jason Clark in the closing seconds of the game leaving 1.8 seconds on the game clock. "Jason didn't have anything so he went to Hollis, and Hollis did what Hollis does," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said. Hollis was the hero of the game after that dagger three point shot. The Alabama fans were "stunned" in Coleman Coliseum.

The stats were almost the same with the exception of the three shot - Hoyas shot 7-17 @ 41.2%, Crimson Tide shot 3-16 @ 18.8%. So, I think Hollis Thompson's game winning three pointer made all the difference in the Hoyas win on the road against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Hoyas made it a team effort, played with a sense of urgency, withstood the Tide's run's, stay composed, overcame adversity in a "hostile environment". "It was our third game against a Team in the Top 15," John Thompson said. "To come in and win against a team on their home court that's so well-coached, that's a big, big victory."

The Hoyas (5-1) are coming off a 81-58 win over IUPUI. Next game is on the road to play the Southeastern Conference's (SEC) #12 Alabama Crimson Tide (7-0). The Tide are coming off a impressive win over a tough and scrappy VCU squad. Senior F JaMychal Green (15.5 pts.) leads his team in scoring with teammate junior F Tony Mitchell (14.4 pts. 7.6 rebs. 2 assists) right behind. Last game against VCU Green had 14 rebounds and shot well from the field (26-50 @ 52%).

The Tide outscored the Rams 40-24 in the paint. This is supposed to be an Alabama team that shoots better from the perimeter than recent seasons, but on this night, the Tide sank only 1-11 shots from the perimeter. No problem. It pounded the ball inside to its big men and penetrated inside with its guards. The Tide bench combined for (16 pts.).

For the Hoyas senior G Jason Clark (17.0 pts) leads his team in scoring. Junior F Hollis Thompson (14.7 pts.) is not too far behind. Freshman sensation F Otto Porter is the leader at (6.5 rebs.) per game. The assist leaders for Hoyas are senior C Henry Sims (4.0) and sophomore F Nate Lubick (2.8). Lubick also had 14 rebounds last game. In the Hoyas last game against IUPUI the Jaguars quickly came out of the gates for the first half. Georgetown figured out IUPUI's strategy out and ran away with a 81-58 victory at the Verizon Center, in Washington, DC.

Hoyanation, the Hoyas will continue to play team basketball with a "sense of urgency" in Alabama. So far, they have quickly learned and fixed some things along the way. As long as sophomore PG Markel Starks "consistently" uses quickness smarts the Hoyas should be fine. No one hand passes, no advertising passes. I'd also like to see him the fundamental "triple threat position" along with his teammates so they can be even more effective in attacking the basket. The lower you stay is the harder it is for the defense to steal the ball from you and the faster you can move. Pass, dribble or shoot in triple threat. Back to the basics "Triple Threat".

Alabama coach Anthony Grant on VCU: "I thought they came out in the first half and frustrated us. We knew coming in they would have a very similar style of play to ours, and we couldn't find a rhythm. But in the second half, our energy was good, our crowd got into it and we wee able to affect them with our press. So it's a good win, and a lot of learning lessons."

Hoyanation, great second half turnaround for the Hoyas (5-1). Junior guard Hollis "Hollywood" Thompson shot 9-15 and led the Hoyas in scoring tonight (21 pts. 10 rebs. 2 assists 2 stls.)

Sophomore F Nate Lubick was also active on the boards tonight (8 pts. 14 rebs. 5 assists) and made great passes to teammates cutting to the basket. With the score 32-31 in favor of the Hoyas, the first half was a challenge for the Hoyas to overcome.

IUPUI's senior guard/forward Alex Young lit the scoreboard up for the Jaguars with 16 first half points. The Hoyas knew they had to shut down Young down for the second half. The Hoyas shot well from the free throw line 10-13 at 76.9%.

Senior Hoya G Jason Clark went 5-6 from the charity stripe. Jason also scored his 1,000th point for the Georgetown Hoyas. Senior Hoya C Henry Sims (14 pts.) continues to shoot well he went 6-10. Hoyas got 18 points from the bench with freshman F Otto Porter (6 pts. 7 rebs. 4 asst. 1 stl.) leading the way. Freshman F Gregory Whittington (7 pts. 1 asst.) was 3-7.

6-9 and is coming along at his position. I think the move of the night was his "Earl The Pearl" reverse move into the paint. That move was crazy!

The Hoyas outrebounded the Jaguars 42-34 and dished out 20 assists, Jaguars 11. Hoyas shot 49.3% from the field. Three point shooting for the Hoyas was only 27.8% 5-18.

The intensity level, sense of urgency from the Hoyas should carry over to the Alabama game on Thursday night 9:30. Great to see Nate Lubick and Markel Starks have a good game. IUPUI glides into D.C. for a meeting with the Hoyas

Hoyas (4-1) back in action at home against the IUPUI Jaguars (2-4) on Monday night. This is the second meeting ever for both teams with the first meeting in 1998 which the Hoyas won 72-60. Although the Jaguars record doesn't look impressive they still continue to play hard. In the Jaguars last outing at home Summit League Preseason Player of the Year Alex Young pumped in a season-high 30 points. Very unselfish team dishing out 30 assists in last game against Texas South University. Jaguars shot the ball at 46.6% 27-58, also shot 3's at 42.3% 11-26.

Hoyas returning from the EA Maui Sports Invitational at (2-1) looking very impressive. Hoyas two senior Henry Sims (24 pts.) and Jason Clark (26 pts.) were impressive leading their team to a big win against #8 Memphis. 6-foot-8 junior Hollis Thompson (12 pts.) is also off to an impressive start, also averaging 13.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in his five starts.

Freshman F Otto Porter (9 pts. 8 rebs. 3 assists 4 stls. 2 blks.) continues fill the stat sheet up for the Hoyas proven to the college basketball world what he can do. Freshmen G Jabril Trawick

(4 pts.) logged a productive 14 minutes especially on the defensive end - F Greg Whittington (4 pts. 2 rebs. 2 assists 2 steals in 23 mins.). Whittington had a big put back play to tie the game and send to overtime 78-78.

The mistakes near the end of the Kansas game didn't seem to appear in #Memphis win. "In the Kansas game, I told our guys we made mistakes coming down the stretch that we can control," Thompson said. "Tonight we made plays as opposed to making mistakes at key points, so hopefully that's growth for this group."

The Hoyas will be at the one game at a time mode playing with same "intensity" that has gotten them to this point. The "chemistry and team bond" is a sight to see. The experience gained since August has paid dividends and will continue to do so for the team. Amazing, totally amazing Hoyanation, "thy will be done"! Hoyas (4-1). Seniors Henry Sims career high (24pts. 8 rebs.) shot 10-17 and led the Hoyas in assists (4) once again 4-5 from the free throw this was key also for the Hoyas having the bigs make their free throws. Senior leader Jason Clark (26 pts.) was in "killer attack mode". Four players were in double figures.

Get the ball down in the paint Henry and Jason Clark were in takeover mode all night. Henry makes real nice passes to his teammates on the dime. I've always said this. I guess watching Greg Monroe throw this pass to a perfection it rubbed off on Big Hank - that's okay with me! "We're getting better," Clark said. "I think we responded well after the loss after Kansas. I think everybody's starting to pay a lot more attention to what we need to do on the court."

Freshman F Otto Porter (9 pts. 8 rebs. 3 assists 4 steals 2 blks.) man, this young man is very productive. Freshmen G Jabril Trawick (4 pts.) was in lock down mode, and F Greg Whittington (4 pts. 2 rebs.) made a key follow up basket from teammate Henry Sims will little time to go in the game.

Wow, I knew there was a possibility of the Hoyas (3-1) meeting the #8 Memphis Tigers (2-1) of Conference USA in the EA Sports Maui Invitational. These two teams are scheduled for a regular season matchup in the nation's capital on December 22, 2011.

The Hoyas will be tasked in stopping Will Barton (25 pts. 11 rebounds, 3 steals) and brother Antonio Barton (21 pts.) shot 8-11 from the field in the Tigers double overtime win against the Tennessee Vols (2-2) in the Maui Invitational.. Another player to watch out for Tiger freshman G/F Adonis Thomas (19 pts. 2 blks.) who shot 7-10 coming off of the bench. Last game the Tigers couldn't keep Michigan guards Tim Hardaway Jr. and Trey Burke out of the lane and were disjointed at times on offense. Memphis had just six assists on 19 field goals and shot 33 percent, including 4 of 20 from 3-point range.

It just happens that the Barton brothers' Will and Antonio are from Baltimore, Maryland my adolescent home since I was 12 years old. Also, their mother was one of my best friends in high school (Northern High School, Baltimore, Maryland). We laughed and joked and got into trouble at times, but it was all clean fun. I love those boys of hers, but they are playing my Hoyas.

The Hoyas steamrolled DII Chaminade and senior Hoya leader G Jason Clark a career high (28 pts.) 4 three pointers and had a field day shooting 10-12 in 24 minutes of playing time. "It's always tough to have a late game and turn around and play early in the morning, especially (since) it was a very intense game, very emotional game," Clark said. "We fought well last night, so some guys are tired, some guys are hurting. But I think that's something that we've just got to play through."

Hoya freshman F Otto Porter (17 pts. 7 rebs. ). He also shot 5-8 from the field and was 6-6 at the free throw line in 23 minutes of play. It was the second time in four games that Porter led the Hoyas in rebounds. Porter is averaging 10.8 points and 6.0 rebounds.

Senior C Henry Sims had 7 assists. All Hoyas played well and the bench made a good contribution. Would love to see the Hoyas wings sprint down the court as the point guard quickly pushes the ball to score in transition. Need to see more the jumphooks from the bigs.

Do I have mixed emotions? Of course, it's natural to have those feelings, but I know I am the Hoyas "numero uno" fan, and it's all business with me. Nothing personal. I just want my Hoyas to win. I know they will!

A shooting clinic and career day on display for Hoya senior leader Jason Clark (28 pts.). Freshman Otto Porter (17 pts.7 rbs ) had a great game. The Hoyas (3-1) play smart and unselfish basketball (19 assists) 5 assists from senior center Henry Sims. It took a group effort. All Hoyas got the chance to play in the EA Sports Maul Invitational tonight against the Chaminade Silverswords. Wally Coulibaly (18 pts.) lead Chaminade in scoring. Silversword senior Matt Cousins (10 pts.) also scored in double digits. Up next for the Hoyas is Memphis. This game should be a dandy. Last meeting was December 23, 2010. Hoyanation, I could say this game is as I expected it to be minus the many mistakes. The young Hoyas (2-1) showed a strong will to battle it out with the -- ranked Kansas Jayhawks (3-1). Hoyas came out flat shooting 0-5 from 3 point range. I think the decision to attack right away was not not established, therefore, the Hoyas settled for 3's.

When you play a team like Kansas, and they are a major threat in the paint you have take the game to them by penetrating inside the paint dish or shoot the ball. This gets them into early foul trouble. Immediately give your bigs the ball and tell them to "go to work." Need more jump hooks from our bigs. Definitely need to see more of this.

The point guard has to control the tempo of the game by making good decisions. He also has to be ready every second the clock ticks. These are things can be fixed.When you don't have the ball you need to be in "triple threat" position. Its' just mind over matter and playing tough.

It's all these things wrap up into one. Definitely have to do a better job at helm. At the half both teams were shooting 44.4%. End of game field goals Jayhawks 47.1% 24-51, Hoyas 40.0% 22-55. Jayhawks tore up the assist stats with 13, Hoyas only 6 assists. The Hoyas have to "push the rock" every chance they get then set up off the offense off of that. Speed, quickness, heart kills out there. More more more!

Thomas Robinson, (Riverdale Baptist, Kenner League, Team Turner (2010) (20 points on 7-for-14 from the field, 12 rebounds and two blocks, 5 dunks) was dominant in the paint tonight for the Jayhawks. "He was a man amongst boys," one NBA general manager said. "You don't find that combination of strength, explosive athletic ability and motor every day. He's still learning how to play on the offensive end. But what he brings to the table every night, you can't teach."

For the Hoyas senior guard Jason Clark (15 pts. 2 rbs. 2 steals) had "gutsy" outing. His leadership was a great factor for the Hoyas in keeping his team focused. Junior Hollis Thompson's sharp shooting (14 pts.) and driving to the hoop and finishing was "stellar" for the Hoyas. The 6-foot-8 small forward impressed the scouts who were there. "He's got a chance," one NBA scout said. "He can shoot the ball, he can put it on the floor and he's got good size for his position. I like him."

Freshman Otto Porter, so many great things to say about he and his teammates for a valiant effort against the Jayhawks in the EA Maui Sports Invitational.

ESPN college basketball analyst Eammon Brennan on What this game meant: Both teams have plenty of reason for optimism. For Kansas, the win is meaningful, but not nearly as much as the means by which it was achieved -- through gorgeous, pass-heavy offense and solid help-oriented defense. It means just as much for Georgetown, if not more; after losing Austin Freeman and Chris Wright to graduation this spring, the Hoyas were picked to finish No. 10 by the Big East coaches this preseason. That prediction deserves serious revision.

I think what surprised most about the Hoyas was their "composure to weather the storm." This was great game to gain that experience. I feel honored to have played one of the best college basketball teams in the land and be just as competitive. The Hoyas look to redeem themselves against Chaminade, losers to the UCLA Bruins in a quarterfinal matchup.

Hoyas, Kansas face off in EA Sports Invitational in Maui

ALOHA Hoyanation! The 2011 EA Sports Maui Invitational is now here. I've been wating for this game for most of the summer, but first things were first. I hear some folks saying this Hoyas versus Kansas will be their first test. I disagree, the season has already began. The young Hoyas were fortunate to have had the opportunity to pass many tests before the regular season began. It started this past summer in Kenner League play. Right away in Kenner action the Hoyas five freshman (The Fresh Five) Otto Porter, Jabril Trawick, Mikael Hopkins, Tyler Adams and Greg Whittington were tested. I think they're biggest game.

Some people say, "it's just summer league." That's cool, but we must remember it's about development, bonding and having team chemistry. The one major thing I saw right away was the "fire in the their eyes," I didn't see the "deer in headlights look on the faces of the freshmen. It showed in their play. It was good to see them play an win big against some of their Alma-mata Jeff Green (Celtics), Jonathan Wallace, Tyler Crawford Greg Monroe (Pistons) and current Hoya red-shirt freshman Aaron Bowen the second meeting was the championship where the past beat the present but the young Hoyas' took Jeff Green and his mob to two overtimes. In my eyes, the first test was passed. A great sight to see right away. The Hoyas are a very competitive mob there's no doubt about it.

Last season's end it was time to go back to the the drawing board and figure such a tough task out. Putting the pieces to puzzle to make it one. The Hoyas know this. Also the Hoyas have been put through the test in China good and bad, but they've overcome and moved on. This test was won. Ask me how? '"Extra" team bond, team chemistry, trust was established in August and only get better.

Now where here in Maui ready to duel with the Kansas Jayhawks, this is not a test, this is the Hoyas third game game. November is Hoyamania month! Last season, the Missouri win was dubbed as the best non-conference game win "ever" in the history of the men's D1 college basketball for the the month of November. Both team's have had two games with the Hoyas winning both of their first two games. Kansas has one win and loss from the Kentucky Wildcats.

You look at our schedule and break down the season and this is an early checkpoint to see where you stand.”

“We’re underdogs. We have nothing to lose,” senior guard Jason Clark said. “We’re not ranked, so we don’t have the target on our back that we usually have. Now, we’re just going after guys, and I think that’s going to be good for our team because no one likes to be told they aren’t good.” Regardless, the task at hand is for the Hoyas to win not anything less. It's about the Hoyas. Just we played our first two games with great "intensity" this will be no different except a step up. The Hoyas will attack and defend. Their communication/point communication with each other is key.

They know this is a business trip that they can also enjoy off court. I've always watched for years other college teams in the Maui Invitational, but now it's our turn, the Hoyas. Hoyanation, the Hoyas know the world is watching, and believe it or not their rooting for us. Remember, "They Know!" but they know they have something to prove because it's all about them.

On Twitter, Yahoo sports tweeted the Kent State victory and the coach's fiery speech over a young West Virginia Mountaineer team. He said, "They have six freshmen," Senderoff bellowed. "They will crumble under the pressure. They will crumble under the pressure. There's no question about it." It's cool. I can understand a coach telling this to his team to movtivate them, but if our opponents coach ever says this to his team about our Hoyas this is what I have to say,"NOT THESE SIX FRESHMAN HOYAS!"

First off, warm up, I love warm ups because of the music. Pumping Wale's Ambition, it sounded like a remix but I tell you it sure was sounding good in the phone booth here in D.C. If anyone thought that the Hoyas were going to overlook this game because of the Kansas game they were absolutely wrong. They didn't lose any focus. Their intensity was "insane" so to speak. They played like they were suppose too and didn't let up. That's a good sign going in to play the Kansas Jayhawks.

The youngings use the press to get their legs going. That's what's good about the press it gets the players' legs loose they move/slide sideways, trap and run the floor. The Hoyas ran the floor beautifully with grace. There were so many exhilerating and spectacular dunks.

Both junior G/F Hollis Thompson (19 pts.) and senior G Jason Clark (17 pts) led their teams respectively in scoring. Senior Henry Sims continues to play well with lots of confidence. All Hoyas played well. The Fresh Five Plus One sure had a lot of fun.

I see the Hoyas running on and off of the court, and what a beautiful sight that is for me. I see all the the little things that add up already. I'm sure lots of it was developed in China. This team is like if you like one then you like all because as far as they're concerned they're all ONE!

One thing that really amazes me is the communication and Hoyabrotherhood I call it. I hear sophomore Hoya point guard Markel Starks yelling out "no lob no lob shooter shooter"! Being a leader is what a point guard is all about, and one thing about it it becomes contagious. I love when the whole team communicattes. It's like poetry in motion.

Good to see the Hoyas have that Ambition!

Spartans vs. Hoyas for second game of season

Both of the these teams are playing each other as part of the EA Sports Maui Invitational . Hoyas (1-0) look to keep their early season swag coming off of a big 83-54 win over visiting Mid-Atlantic Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Savannah State U Tigers (0-1). UNC Greensboro Spartans (0-1) are (0-4) against Big East Conference opponents with three losses comin from the West Virginia Mountaineers and one loss coming from the South Florida U Bulls. The Spartans are coming off a 92-63 loss to Tennessee. This is a good the Hoyas should not take playing the Spartans for granted. You learn something new for every great team you play against - you try to be greater the next time.

This will be the Spartans fifth game versus a Big East opponent."The last two years we've played one of the top non-conference schedules in the country, which has helped to enhance our program's profile. This year is no different," said Spartan Coach Dement. We intend for these games to ultimately help prepare us for success in Southern Conference play."

Junior G Korey Van Dussen (12.0) leads his team in scoring. Junior G Derrell (8 rebs.) leads his team in rebounding. The Hoyas are lead in scoring by senior C Henry Sims (19 pts.), assist leaders are both Sims and Nate Lubick (5 assists). Top two rebounders for the Hoyas are freshman F Otto Port (8) and sophomore F Nate Lubick (7).

Team defense was the key for the Hoyas in their last outing on the homefront. Their "intensity" level was at a very high level. Communication and point communication are major keys on both ends of the court.

Team Hoyas "team up" to tame the Tigers 83-54

The excitement was surely in the air for the Hoyas (1-0) first game of the 2011-2012 season with a convincing win against Mid Eastern Atlantic Conference's Savannah State University Tigers (0-1) 83-54. Hoya senior C Henry Sims had a career high (19 pts. 5 assists, 3 blocks, 6 rebounds 9-11 fgm). He led all scorers. Starters combined for 57 point, bench 26 points. Both freshmen forwards Otto Porter (9 pts.) and Greg Whittington (8 pts.) played a solid game.

The Hoyas outrebounded the Tigers 33-22. Assists Hoyas 22, Tigers 12. Shooting percentages for the Hoyas was 66.7% , Tigers 34%. All of Georgetown players got a chance to play. Definitely glad the Hoyas didn't soley rely on the three ball.

Great attack and defend mode. 10 blocks for the Hoyas! Great "team" effort today! “I thought they did very, very well, Thompson said. “Greg has to get more rebounds, but they all do things. They all defend. All can make shots. They give you different things, not about just putting the ball in the basket. I thought both Otto and Greg were very good today. Otto ended up with a full stat line, including a couple of blocks.”

I was in top form cheering my Hoyas on to victory. Definitely a pleasure to see the Hoyas back in action. The sense of urgency, determination, team bond and chemistry were there. Communication and playing unselfish were also key. Sophomore point guard Markel Starks was called for his second foul midway through the first half, and he had to sit.

Senior guard Jason Clark picked up the slack at the point guard position and the Hoyas never missed a beat for the remainder of the first half. Starks was ready in the second half - Coach John Thompson III praised the sophomore’s second half effort. “One of the keys was Markel’s on-ball defense,” he said. “He picked up his intensity in the second half.”

THE HOYAS ARE BACK! Hoyanation and friends, its been a while since last season's end. I had the opportunity to see the Hoyas this summer in Kenner League action. Although, the Hoyas were on separate summer league teams, I got a preview of what's to come this season. One important thing I did see was the "fire, determination and intensity in their eyes" and they played like they had something to prove the whole summer.

I think they know this, and Hoyanation I think this is what we will see this season. This team is egoless, knowlingly having something to prove which is totally amazing to me.With the Hoyas having five incoming freshmen (The Fresh Five) including medical redshirt freshman Aaron Bowen, the Hoyas had the opportunity to get their season started earlier than normal with a trip to China.

The trip to China couldn't have come at a better time because the Hoyas basically have a young team with the exception of the two senior leaders Jason Clark and Henry Sims. A bond and chemistry needed to formed for the young Hoyas, so I think this was a brillant idea on behalf of the coaching staff and university. A bond and chemistry were formed. “We instantly clicked,” Porter said of his teammates. “That’s what coach is looking for -- to be unselfish with each other on and off the court.” As far as I'm concerned this is what life and basketball is all about. Love the word "unselfish."

“You’re going to see a lot of Philly,” Starks said about freshman sensation Jabril Trawick. “You’re going to see that toughness. A lot of people think that Georgetown toughness is gone, but it’s surely back.”

Senior Hoya team leader Jason Clark, said, "keeping the freshman from getting too high or low will be important." “There are going to be times when they have great games, and I have to tell them, ‘It’s only one game.’

Savannah State is coached by Horace Broadnax, who was a G on the Hoyas’ 1984 national championship team and 1985 NCAA runnerup squad, playing for legendary Georgetown coach John Thompson. Georgetown opens the season Saturday against Savannah State, a Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC) squad that went 12-18 last year but which won 10 of its final 11 games. The Tigers have no seniors on their roster, and are led by junior G Preston Blackmon (12.5 ppg) and sophomore F Jyles Smith (7.2 rpg).

The Hoyas senior upperclassmen leader G Jason Clark (12.0 ppg field goals 48%) last season, C Henry Sims (3.6 ppg) the points should increase this year for Big Hank, F Hollis Thompson (6.6 ppg). Hollywood's points should increase tremendously this season.

Hoyanation and friends, I don't want to come to jump to any conclusions, but from reading this from UNC's sophomore point guard sensation Kendall Marshall on Twitter, arguably the #1 point guard in the land it didn't go as well as he would of liked it to. That's okay and understandable coming especially coming from him because he's is their floor general, the Tarheels quarterback, he know's he is an extension of the coach on the floor and some things didn't look right to him. Oh, believe me if I know UNC's Kendall Marshall, he will fix it.

Looks like the Hoyas held their own against the #1 team in land. I think everybody is anxious and wants to know what happened in the scrimmage today, so this is the closest we may as fans will probably get know about the "secret scrimmage" that took place today in the Dean Dome. and both team's were able to use this scrimmage as a measuring stick as to where they are at this time, and what each team needs to work on. I don't know if this tweet from Marshall can tell you anything, but it sure tells me something. As I've stated, and I'll say it again and again, "Our Hoyas have something to prove!" Thy will be done!
