Hoyas glide into Philly to take on the Villanova Wildcats in a Big East conference game

The Georgetown Hoyas (14-2 4-1 BE) will take on the Villanova Wildcats unbeaten in Big East play (15-1 4-0 BE) tomorrow in Philadelphia, PA.  Hoya Austin Freeman leads the Hoyas in scoring at (15.5 pts.) and Scottie Reynolds leads the Wildcats in scoring at (18.8 pts).  After thoroughly justifying its new No. 4 ranking with a wild 92-84 victory at Louisville, Villanova takes on a different kind of Big East beast on Sunday.  The Wildcats will have to go from being "sped up" by Louisville's full-court press and defensive pressure to speeding up 11th-ranked Georgetown, which fell behind UConn by 15 points at halftime on Jan. 9 before slowing down the game and stealing a 72-69 victory.

Villanova will want to use its superb guards, led by red-hot senior Scottie Reynolds, to push the pace and unleash its own press against the Hoyas in an effort to take the legs out from Georgetown big man Greg Monroe.  In the mean time, the Hoyas remain confident, focused and determined and ready for any challenge the Wildcats may bring.

Hoyanation and friends I must say the Hoyas's glide was fast and furious.  Hoyas stay focused and attentive for most of the game and defend their home court once again.  Chris Wright (21 pts.), and Jason Clark's (20 pts.)  guard play was phenomenal last night.  Chris Wright's point guard play and leadership are very smart which leads to his play being amazing.   It should be in headlines, "extra, extra, read all about it, Jason Clark shuts down Jeremy Hazzell one of the best shooters in the college game today with slick defense".

I can tell you when I used to coach my son's teams, it was all about "defense" with me.  I had some teams that could flat out score, but I knew we would also need to stop our opponents from scoring points so we could score more points.  Defense wins championships, bottom line, and of course free throws.  I think when you're playing the best player or shooter on the court and you shut him down gives you tremendous confidence to play against any great player or shooter. 

Great job Jason!  Austin  Freeman (16 pts.) was steady and usual showing great leadership and determination.  Julian Vaughn's  (13 pts.) inside play was strong and skillful.  Greg Monroe's leadership from the start and his athleticism and ability to run the floor is always a sight to see.  Henry Sims "fiery play" off of the bench play a big part in keeping the Pirates off of the glass, his toughness and attentiveness is just what the Hoyas need in his call of duty.  Freshman Hollis Thompson's play continues to be exciting with the little things he does that add to the big picture.

Hollis' three pointer deep in the corner was what the Hoyas needed at the right time!  It was good to see the other freshman Vee Sanford out there on the floor last night.  I'm excited about that young man, and Hoyanation, you should be too, just wait you will see.  In the mean time, good talking to you once again.  As the Hoyas continue their "redemption dream season" and I will glide and enjoy the ride and root them on to victory becasue WE ARE GEORGETOWN!

Hoyanation and friends, another Big East game I'm looking forward to against the Seton Hall Pirates (10-5 1-3 BE)  The mighty Hoyas (12-2 3-1 BE) continue the "redemption dream season" tomorrow in a Big East matchup with the Pirates.  Both teams come into this basketball meeting with two players that can knock down the three pointer when needed, but I think the Hoyas do it more in a "team concept" which leads to " "the takeover" I call it.  Georgetown Hoya Austin Freeman 15.4 pts. and Seton Hall's Jeremy Hazzell at 22.3 pts. are the games leading scorers for their respective teams.  For the Hoyas, that may just be for tomorrow night because you'll never no who will have the hot hand until it happens.  This is what "great team play" is all about "sharing the ball", "the more you give it up, the more you'll get it back", I do believe in this great basketball philosopy. This is is what the Hoyas do so well all the way to the end.  The last play in the UConn game was sooooo amazing.  I bet if you ask those players, "did it seemed like everything was in slow motion?"  They'll probably say yes.  I can honestly say, "it was in slow motion to me."  It was a great Hoya moment Hoyanation and friends.  Most of all, you saw the desire to be unselfish all the way to the very end against a tough, veteran team in the Huskies.  The Hoyas will have the engine revved up and ready to go because WE ARE GEORGETOWN!  HOYA SAXA!

Congratulations to Hoya Trooper Austin Freeman's Big East Honor Roll

Hoyanation, after watching Austin Freeman play since his high school days at the legendary DeMatha High School, I saw a young man with a lot of heart, courage and toughness.  Also, Austin Freeman was a very fundamentally sound and smart basketball player and still is today.  Austin Freeman played in one of the best conferences Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) always one of the best high school conferences in America if not the best at times.  A "true" McDonald's All-American.  Now, as a "true Hoya", Austin Freeman has found his niche and knows his role.  A true team player he has always been, Austin Freeman knows, it's not about him, it's about his "team", the might Hoyas.  That's what makes Austin Freeman so special and valuable.  Congratulations Austin on your selection to the Big East Honor Roll!  Blue and Gray, All Day!

Hoyanation and friends, all I can say is my my my, what a game, I just have to say it again, what a game!  I knew the game would be like this,  I was ready for it.  I knew this game wouldn't be easy, but I did know the Hoyas would prevail.  Yes, even when they were down.   I was like, "those worked awful this summer when is it going to come out?"  I kept looking at the clock.  The first half ended with the Hoyas scoring the last bucket.  A bucket they needed before the half to give them "some kind of momentum.:"  During halftime I my military bearing was settling in me and I was thinking, "what would I do if I were a coach and we went into the locker room at the hal?"  You don't wanna know, so I'll leave it at that!    Whatever it was, it worked because the Hoyas made thier minds up and fought with everything that had and won the Big East Showdown against the Huskies home at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC on a sunny beautiful afternoon day.

The rebounding became "contagious" after that with Greg Monroe and Julian Vaughn   Good job by the other freshman Hollis Thompson, the little things he does sure adds up to the big picture as well as his teammates.  Hoyas (12-2 3-1 BE) win 79-62 in Big East thrilla as UConn (11-4 2-2 BE) blows 18 point lead.  I wouldn't even say UConn blew a the lead, the Hoyas took the lead!  Team Hoyas took matters into their own hands with super sophomore Austin Freeman leading the way.with great, tough nitty gritty

 Georgetown basketball.The Hoyas "scrapped" and got the job done. The freshman, Jerrelle Benimon, was a beast off of the bench. I know the freshman is very proud of himself. Grabbing key rebounds on both ends of the floor gave the Hoyas a lifts during those tough moments.

At halftime I walked over and saw Chris Wright's dad and I told him, "we are gonna win this game, it was amazing because there's was not a doubt in my mind that Hoyas would win." By the way, did ya'll see Chris Wright's sister dancing on the big screen near the very end of the game, lol, she knew the game was over before it was over, way to go Ms. Zakia Wright, lol. A "true" Hoya sister.

There were so many people who didn't believe me when I said the Hoyas would win especially when were down 18 points.  I was like do they know about the Big East or better yet, where is ye faith.  I know I saw "faith in adversity" out there today, I do know this, and this was so so beautiful to see.  For some reason, I don't know what it is, I always know when I'm down or my team is down, I just always BELIEVE, we're gonna win no matter how far we're down.  That's what I'm out there for all the way to the end of the game to "believe and overcome".  It seems to lift my teams up to the point where they "prevail" and overcome "adversity".

The great thing about it, it's "totally amazing" seeing this happen at that precise moment.  This game remined of a game I coached at the basketball camp.  We were down, but I told my team to be "scrappy and go get it" and they did.  I couldn't believe we won the game and that's what I was out there for, LOL, oh my my my.  What a game.  The referees, NO COMMENT!  EVER!  We'll do our normal routine Hoyanation and play hard, play and WIN.  Good job Hoyas.

Hoyas to bounce back at home against he UConn Huskies in Big East showdown

Hoyanation, it's been a few days since the Hoyas last game.  I always enjoy watching the Hoyas win or lose, that's my squad.  I do know this, regardless of the situation the Hoyas will give it their best shot each time time they step on the court and in the classroom.  This is what life is all about for the Hoyas. I can't speak for any other team, but I can speak for my team, the Hoyas.  This is what gets me pumped up about the Georgetown Hoyas. They know how to bounce back no matter what the circumstances are.  The Hoyas (11-2  2-1 BE) looked to bounce back at home in a Big East showdown against the UConn Huskies (11-3  2-1 BE).  Greg Monroe The Hoyas won the last meeting in an away game against the Huskies.  Although, that was last season, it gives the Hoyas some confidence knowing they can win this big game.  Of course, everygame is a game in the Big East, but as long as the Hoyas keep it steady or better we will be okay folks.  The Huskies have a trio of players that can flat out get it done, and so do the Hoyas!  This will be a great game folks at the Verizon Center,  Tip off time will be at 12:00 pm, game to be telecast live on ESPN,

Hoyas lose a tough heartbreaker to the hungry Marquette Warriors 62-59

Hoyanation, your typical Big East game.  Hey, what can you say.  There's no night off  in the Big East, you can count on that.  The Marquette Warriors (1-2) had lost their first two Big East games by very close margins this season.  The Warriors could of put their heads down and kept losing but they chose not too.  They overcame and the won tonight against the Hoyas (11-2) 62-59.  The barrage of three pointers by Player of the Game David Cubillan (6-6) amazing three point shooting became contagious amongst other teammates at key moments in this hard fought game on behalf of both teams.   Austin Freeman (20 pts.) lead the Hoyas in scoring tonight and showed lots of  leadership and offensive toughness to carry
the Hoyas throughout the game.

With a missed free throw by Maurice Acker and big rebound by Greg Monroe at the 29 second mark with the score 59-60 Marquette Austin Freeman dribbled the ball down the court and missed a two pointer with three defenders collapsing on him.  Hoyas have to play "smart basketball" all the way to the "last second.". There was time enough for maybe one or two more passes to win this one, but we live and learn life lessons. Jason Clark (7 pts. 2 steals. 4 reb.) was everywhere out on hardwood.

Nice three point shot made by the sophomore sensation Jason Clark at the 4:43 mark to tie the game 53-53 and silence the Warrior roaring crowd. Jason Clark's play has been nothing but outstanding and steady. The Hoyas look to get back on track against the UConn Huskies on Saturay Jan. 9.

In which Karl Malone (allegedly) throws chairs in a dumpster

Sometimes, college basketball yields weirdness beyond what anyone could normally conceive. Today is one of those days.

The story goes like this: Louisiana Tech was hosting Nevada Saturday at the Thomas Assembly Center, where Karl Malone Floor (Malone attended Louisiana Tech) adorns the playing surface. The floor was apparently surfaced in December. Nevada, as is frequent custom, brought its own chairs to the game and placed them in the middle of the floor in front of the Wolfpack bench for timeouts. According to varying reports, the Mailman was on hand, and the Mailman doesn't much like you scratching up his court.

Karl Malone wasn't particularly thrilled with Nevada bringing small folding chairs onto "his" court during the media timeouts of Saturday's Tech-Nevada basketball game at the Thomas Assembly Center. Bringing chairs or stools onto the court during timeouts is standard practice all around the country, but Malone voiced his displeasure, and the Nevada staff was told staff to keep the chairs off the floor (which was sanded and sealed in December). Nevada continued to use its chairs throughout the rest of the first half, and may or may not have antagonized Malone by using some extra oomph when setting the chairs on the hardwood.

So during halftime Malone grabbed Nevada's portable furniture and threw it in a dumpster outside the arena. Allegedly.

That's from Monroe (La.) News Star reporter Ethan Conley, who spoke with La. Tech deputy athletic director Bruce Van De Velde about the supposed altercation. Van De Velde says the story is "a little bit embellished." He also added that Karl "takes a lot of pride in the floor," but that he "didn't remove" any chairs. Other reports differ: Nevada athletic director Cary Groth said she couldn't confirm or deny whether the chairs were in fact delivered to the dumpster by Malone, only that when Nevada came back from halftime they were not there.

Whether Malone moved them or not, the mere mental picture of an angry, plaid-clad Karl Malone hauling plush sideline chairs out to the dumpster, muttering under his breath the whole way, is good enough for me. I'll never un-know this image, whether it actually ever existed or not. I am totally cool with that.
