Hoyanation and friends, are you ready for the showdown?  I am so ready.  I've been waiting for this moment every since the Hoyas last season ended.  It's been a long wait, but I was patient and confident the Hoyas would get this point, and go on to further great things.  The Hoya redemption dream season has been just what it is, a dream and I believe dreams due come true.  The Hoyas are 3-0 in their new season (BET) and are going into the Big East Tourney Championship game tonight in a showdown with the West Virginia Mountaineers, who won their semi-final matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

It's the third time in the last four years that Georgetown has reached the Big East's championship game. This time might have been the sweetest.  Against Marquette, Georgetown looked every bit the conference's elite, shooting 53.6 percent while holding the Golden Eagles to 37 percent and winning the rebounding battle, 44-24.

"It wasn't anything," Monroe said. "It was opportunities that I took. I just come out and try to do things for my team."  Still, players and coach alike made it clear that the team's work was not yet done.  It's March," Thompson said, " and there's no time to take a breath and pat yourself on the back in March.  I think Chris Wright said it:  'We didn't come here to just say we would beat Syracuse."

The Hoyas redemption dream is in full swing.  Hoyanation and friends the Hoyas started out the gates with a fast pace and never look back and dominate the Marquette Warriors in the Big East Tournament action in game to remember.  The Hoyas had the energy, Chris Wright immediatedly started things with a three pointer.  The "defense" was phenomenal.  The "offense" was clicking on all cylinders.  Great team play and communication.  The Hoyas played with an extreme sense of urgency.  They were focused, and played hard, played smart and had fun.  The Hoyas really put on clinic with Chris Wright  and Jason Clark both with 15 points and Greg Monroe leading the way with 23 points, and 13 rebounds and 7 assists.  Austin Freeman had 12 points also in the Big East Tourney win. 

Comparisons were being made about Greg Monroe to some of Georgetown's great centers, but Monroe went on to say, "I'm honored to follow people that were so good here.  "The things they accomplished and did and went on to do great things at a high level me just being here two years, I can't put myself in the same category as those players."

"We know that Greg is a phenomenal player," Wright said.  "It's not like he just started doing this in the Big East tournament. We know he can pass, we know he can score."

"They absolutely anhilated us," Marquette coach Buzz Williams said. "I thought every single player that played was really good, was hard for us to guard, and we were as bad as we've been all year defensively. Didn't play with very much energy at all."  The Hoyas have a meeting tomorrow night at 9 p.m. with West Virgina for the Big East Tournament Title.

The Hoya redemption dream season conintues tonight as the Hoyas glide into semi-final action against the Warriors

The Hoyas glide into semi-final Big East Tournament action tonight to meet fifth-seeded Marquette, which beat fourth-seeded Villanova 80-76 yesterday in New York’s Madison Square Garden.  Hoyanation and friends the Hoyas look to cool off the hot shooting Marquette Warriors.  It seemed like the Warriors could not miss a jump shot.  They were just shooting from everywhere around the perimeter, but I know the Hoyas have something for that, DEFENSE!   As the Hoyas lift their hands and arms and spread their wings the Warriors wiil not be able to get off too many jump shots, and if they decide to go the hole the Hoyas will be right there and take charges.

The Golden Eagles have played 20 games against Big East opponents this season and 13 have been decided by four points or less. Marquette has learned how to survive the close ones, winning seven of the last eight games in that situation -- all of those were by three points or less.  Hopefully, the Hoyas won't have to worry about this and will start out of the gates fast and never look back.

Hoyas attack and peel the Orange in Big East quarterfinal win 91-84

Chris Wright scored 27 points and Georgetown glides past Syracuse with an impressive second-half surge, beating the top-seeded Orange 91-84 in the quartefinals of the Big East tournament Thursday. Austin Freeman added 18 points and Jason Clark 17 for the Hoyas, who will play Marquette or Villanova in the first semifinal Friday night.  This game was indeed a classic after losing to the Cuse twice last season.  Hoyanation and friends, I say, "last season"  because it's a new a season now and the Hoyas are 2-0.  The Hoyas redemption dream season is just what is, and it continues. 

It's about having "faith through adversity", and the Hoyas have overcame so many obstacles and continue to move forward.  The Hoyas clawed and scrapped their way to victory over the third ranked Syracuse Orangemen today.  With so many doubters (haters), lol, I'm glad the Hoyas hushed them up.  People talk about "depth" and all those other negative things, but I'm the Hoyas don't think or worry about the negativity or the expectations and just go out and play and play hard, smart and have fun. 

At one point during the game, announcer Doris Burke said, "look at Chris Wright, he's lock in".  Analyst and former Duke standout Jay Williams stated, "Chris Wright had the look of a stone cold killa", lol.  I guess Jayson has a way with words, but it was true, the Hoyas were as Coach Thompson says, extremely focused, determined and played with a sense of urgency.  This is what the Hoyas do, they do what they do.  WE ARE...GEORGETOWN!

It's a new season Hoyanation and friends.  The Hoyas are 1-0 and today will be playing the Syracuse Orangemen (28-3) in a Big East Tournament Quarterfinal Classic.  The Hoyas (21-9) nearly knocked off Syracuse the last time the teams met, so they know they can hang with the Orange.  But they must limit Syracuse’s perimeter scoring.  "Every game will be tough," Boeheim said. "It's a nightmare. It'll be a great tournament with great games. We have a lot of good teams so any team can win."   "They're a good team, they can beat you so many ways," coach John Thompson III said.  "They're long, they have a terrific defense, so we just need to come out and execute at both ends of the floor."

The Orange and Hoyas have split 12 tournament meetings, with Syracuse winning 58-57 four years ago in the last one in the semifinals en route to its most recent title.  "We've played them twice already," Coach Thompson said. "It's Georgetown-Syracuse. We know what they're going to do. They know what we're going to do."

Jason Clark and Greg Monroe scored 16 points each, and Georgetown built a big first-half lead before handling everything South Florida star Dominique Jones could offer in a 69-49 victory in the  Big East Tournament.  Jason Clark's crossover between the legs step back jumper was my highlight of the game, lol.  I like the Hoyas played defense.  Greg Monroe had four fouls, Julian "JuJu" Vaughn had four fouls, but Henry "Big Hank" Sims filled the void at a most important in the post.  His communication played a key role on big defensive stop which created two points in transition for the Hoyas. 

Chris Wright's leadership, focus, determination and smart play were phenomenal today.  His sense of urgency really started things out for the mighty Hoyas in the first game in BET action.   Georgetown built a 14 point first-half lead relying mostly on defense, which was good even by coach John Thompson III's stringent standards.

It's the Second Time Around for the Hoyas as they meet South Flordia in Big East Tournament action tomorrow

Hoyanation and friends, "oh what a delight it is  for the Hoyas (20-9  10-8 Big East)  to meet the Univesity of South Florida Bulls (20-9  9-9 Big East) at a neutral site the second time around.  In the first game of the Big East Tournament played at the Madison Square Gard, "The World's Greatest Arena", the South Florida Bulls topple the DePaul Blue Demons 58-49.  While watching the first BET game on ESPN Doug Gottlieb mentioned he would be surprised if Georgetown ended up in the Final Four.  Then he mentioned nobody should give you anything just because of the name on the front of your jersey.  I said to myself, "is Doug Gottlieb hating or shouldn't he be saying this about Duke?  Maybe.  Hoyas respect and earn the right to wear the name Georgetown on the front of their jersey.  Hoyas go hard, because WE ARE...GEORGETOWN!     

I think the Hoyas are looking forward to this re-matchup stemming from a earlier loss to the Bulls at home. I think the worst thing that happened to me that night was while waiting with a friend for our ride to come  bunch of  "hyped" USF fans were still leaving the Verizon.  I thought all the USF fans were gone, but evidently not.  I'm glad I detected it the fans early.  I had all my Hoyas gear on too, so I had to turn my back and act like I was talking on my cell phone, lol, but I could still hear a provoking voices saying, "yeah, that's right USF baby, yeah, that's right", but I ignored them and wiped the sweat from my forehead and was glad that was all over with.  I guess they didn't know I know and watched Chris Howard grow up and play ball with my son and and friends in the area.  Well, I'm glad everything was cool. 

Besides that, I just want to focus on these two playmakers for USF point guard Chris Howard and leading scorer Bulls Dominic Jones, both are smart heady players.  Chris Howard is more of a true point guard and play maker.

Dominic Jones, much the same but looks to attack and score.  The Bulls did not make a three pointer in today's game, let's hope this happens again along with stopping the run.  Both are playmakers, but I believe when the Hoyas slow the Bulls down and play great defense, rebound and get back quickly in transition defense. On defense point guard needs to make sure he takes a step back for every shot their opponents shoot make or miss so they can get back on defense to stop the run.  The Hoyas know that this is a new season, but it's still the Hoya Redemption Dream Season.  Hoyanation the Hoyas remain focus, determined and ready to play with a sense of urgency game by game in the Big East Tournament.  This is what dreams are made of.

Hoyas claw away the Bearcats in last regular season Big East game

The crowd chanted Austin Freeman, Austin Freeman, Austin Freeman.  Austin was unbelievable pouring in 24 points today and just think he had rests throughout the game, wow, now that's what I call "Faith in Adversity".   "I'm proud of him,"  teammate Greg Monroe said.  "It's so serious.  It's a life-changing thing that you find out, but once he was back on the court, he was the same.  Off the court, he was the same. He just took it all in stride."   "I'm fine, I'm fine," the soft-spoken Freeman said. "It was just good to be out there again to be playing with my teammates and just doing what I do.  It was just a lot of fun to be out there.  It was just the same."

Of course his teammates had his back as they always do with each other. The Hoyas know they are a "unit" 1 Family, with 1 Goal. Hoyanation and friends a great day for the Hoyas as they blow out the Cincinnati Bearcast in their last regular season Big East game in a home game at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. I knew it would a great day, and for some reason I knew Austin Freeman would play. It was good to see Austin's family after the game. His dad said, "he will be alright", and his family were jubliant as they always are win or lose. Everyone seemed to be in great spirits before and during the game. The atmosphere was just so amazing.


The Hoyas were in great rhythm and clicking on all cylinders. The guard play was fantastic and their defense was phenomenal. The Hoyas played this game with a sense of urgency especially going into the Big East postseason. The Hoya redemption dream season is just what it is. Dreams do come true and it gives me the honor and privilege to know this. It's a new season now! The Hoyas know this and will remain focused and determined throughout post season play one practice at a time, and one game at a time.

Monroe had 19 points and 15 rebounds, and Chris Wright had 16 points as Georgetown (20-9, 10-8 BE) finished in the top half of the 16-team Big East, avoiding the dreaded Tuesday game in a conference tournament that has been expanded to five days.  Coach Thompson called the week "emotional" and "trying" but expressed guarded confidence that his leading scorer was back to his old basketball self.  "As long as we can limit the sways in his levels, we're going to see a lot more games this year like that," the coach said.  The last two games, one of the key parts of what we do was not feeling good, " Coach Thompson said.  "So to go in there today, knowing he's going to be there, makes a big difference."

"The second half we got totally outplayed," Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin said.  "We struggled to make layups, we struggled to make free throws, struggled to make open shots.  Playing hard, focused and all that stuff, that's just talk. You've got to get the ball in the basket.  We play in the Big East.  We're not going to be able to just outhustle people.  That only goes so far."   "I'm not happy he came out and killed me today," Cronin said.  But I'm very happy for him that he's able to play and he's going to be healthy and have a great career, because he's a great player.

Georgetown coach John Thompson III reiterated late Thursday night that Austin Freeman will play again this season.  "He will absolutely play again this season," Thompson said.  "He's learning about his body, how his blood-sugar levels fluctuate. He may play Saturday against Cincinnati.  It will be a doctor's decision at this point."

Thompson said part of the reason for the Hoyas' inconsistency has been a flu bug that affected much of the team.  "We've been healthy now for a few days," Thompson said. "It's the first time in a few weeks."

When I think about this game being the last regular season Big East game I have say to myself, it funny how times flies, but then I think again, and I think about how long a season it is in the "brutal" and "unforgiving" Big East conference considered to be the best college D1 conference in the USA.

We've had some bumps along the way, but that's what life is all about, and that's what dreams are made of.  The Hoyas redemption dream season moves forward.  Clint Eastwood in Marine movie Heartbreak Ridge said it best, "Improvise, Overcome, and Adapt".

THE SERIES

Cincinnati and Georgetown are meeting for the seventh time since the series began when UC joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2005-06.  The Bearcats look for third straigh win vs. Georgetown.  The Hoyas won the first four meetings, but the Bearcats swept Georgetown last season, winning in Cincinnati, 65-57, and rallying for a 64-62 overtime victory in Washington. UC is 1-3 vs. the Hoyas at the Verizon Center. Senior guard Deonta Vaughn is the Bearcats career leading scorer vs. Georgetown, averaging 17.2 points per game in five career starts.

CURRENT BEARCATS VS. GEORGETOWN

· Senior guard Deonta Vaughn and sophomore forward Yancy Gates are the only current Bearcats to average in double figures vs. Georgetowna. Vaughn is averaging 17.2 ppg in five career games vs. GU, while Gates has posted 10.0 ppg in two appearances.

· In last year’s 64-62 overtime win at the Verizon Center, Vaughn led the team in points (16), rebounds (9), and assists (6) as UC overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half.

We definitely we want to limit those guys along with Bearcat the 6-5 Lance Stephenson, a freshmen sensation from Bronx NYC and Lincoln High School.

Hoyas lose to West Virginia on the road without leading scorer Austin Freeman

Although the Hoyas lost this game, they fought back with some courage and determination.  The Hoyas came within 10 points three times during the second half  from the 3:23 minute to the 1:42 mark and came up short.  I really like when I got to see most of my Hoyas playing last night.  Although I missed Austin Freeman, I knew his teammates had his back as they have all season long for each other.  "We missed every part of his presence, not just his points, but his composure," Thompson said.  The first half  was tough for the Hoyas as they made many turnovers.,  I think Hoyas figured it out in the second half.  Once the Hoyas settled down the Hoyas were able to get focused. 

With a smile of confidence and courage on Chris Wright's face, and this made me feel better knowing the Hoyas were playing hard, smart and having fun at this time, something so dearly needed in this moment of adversity.  Hoyanation and friends, we got a chance to see most of our Hoyas stepping up with a sense of urgency in a very tough environment on the road.  It was a sight to see our players stepping up in anyway they could.  I thought the player rotation was great.  Hoya freshman combo giard, Vee Sanford step in right away and had a "great outting". 

From how I've seen Sanford play from summer to now he seems to have an high basketball IQ of both guard positions.  I think this brings lots of added flavor for the Hoyas for our last regular season game and moving forward to the Big East Tournament and National Tournamen.  I would say two new seasons ahead, but next the Hoyas face off with the Cincinati at home on Saturday

First off, we pray for Austin Freeman to get well.  Hoyanatoin and friends it's "Go Hard" night for the Hoyas.  Just finished reading Liz Clarke's Washington Post article talking about "depth", I'm like here we go again.  We still have a regular season games tonight against WVU tonight and Cincy on Saturday, then we have the Big East Tournament and then the National Tournament, so why is there an issue with "depth".  I think that's something the Hoyas don't have time to worry about.  Just my thought on the "depth" issue. 

The Hoyas (19-8  9-7 BE) go on the road to play the West Virginia Mountaineer's (22-6  11-5 BE) in a Big East Battle tonight at 7 on ESPN.  Yes, I think this will be good chance for the Hoyas to get their swagger back.  The Hoyas are coming off a home loss against Notre Dame and West Virginia is coming off of a home win againt Cincy and used a big rebounding advantage to come from 13 points down and beat Cincinnati 74-68 on Saturday.

The Mountaineers outrebounded Cincinnati 41-30 after the teams were even at halftime. West Virginia entered the game as the Big East's top rebounding team, while Cincinnati was first in rebounding margin.

During practices, West Virginia coach Bob Huggins has instilled a tactic in his players when it comes to corralling missed shots -- he sends those who don't hustle after them to a high-speed treadmill for punishment.

"We've got smart guys and they knew that we had to rebound the ball," Huggins said. "It becomes a part of their DNA. If they don't rebound in practice, they know that they're on that treadmill."   Ten of West Virginia's 26 second-half rebounds came on the offense end.  "They got a lot of the long ones coming off on the offensive glass," Cincinnati's Yancy Gates said. "At times it seemed like the whole team was in there."

Huggins substituted often in the first half trying to find the right combination. Cincinnati made five 3-pointers in the first 11 minutes and, after West Virginia switched from a zone to man-to-man defense, Gates hit a layup and a dunk to cap a 9-0 run and give the Bearcats a 23-16 lead with eight minutes left until halftime.

"Wooooo, sitting here thinking about Hoya guards Jason Clark, Hollis Thompson, Chris Wright, Austin Freeman and what I call (you may think I'm crazy, lol) the Hoyas "secret weapon" Vee Sanford.  For so many years, I've seen many basketball games on every level and I've seen what I call, "basketball miracles".  My personal thing which started in the Kenner League, I realize it's just a summer league. The Kenner League always gives me a chance to see and study the incoming freshmen.  These are things I look for in guard play. Hollis Thompson and Vee Sanford...fundamentals and skill, smarts, decision making and heart/toughness.  I saw all of those things in both freshmen guards.  I like when Vee Sanford comes in games, and give the guards rest, he's also a spark.  Sanford creates havoc on both ends of the court".   Just my thinking.

In the stretch run in Big East play Hoyas lose to the Fighting Irish

The morning started off good for me.  I tried to get the Verizon a little bit earlier but was held up in traffic inside McDonalds for my breakfast three sausage burritos, but it was well worth the wait.  On the way to the game on the metro I was thinking how bad I wanted the Hoyas to win this game.  The Hoyas where wearing the 2010 Michael Jordan Silver Anniversary uni's and kicks.  One thing I noticed is that Austin Freeman did not start.  I figured he might of been injured or sick.  I do know we sure missed one of our fearless leaders today.  First and foremost I hope Austin is feeling better.  I do like his heart in trying to help his team out anyway he could.   Notre Dame played a great game and won.  It seemed like everytime they shot the ball in went in, and it didn't matter where the Irish shot it from the ball went in.  Well, anyway I'm looking forward to a big "W" Monday night on the road against the West Virginia Mountaineers, who are coming off a win against Cincinnati. 

 I'm going to root big time for my Hoyas and hope they come out very hungry and get the win.  I know it will be a very hostile atmosphere at WVU, but I remember how hostile it was when the Hoyas played at the Zoo (Pitt).  The Hoyas overcame that hostile environment and came away with the win.  I think they just have to go back and remember how focused and determined they were early and midway through the season.  I guess it's almost like getting refreshed.  The Hoyas just have to make smarter decisions in tough situations and push the rock in those situations especially with the opposing team with 10 team fouls.  I enjoyed and always enjoy seeing my Hoyas and look forward to Monday night's game with the Mountaineers.  Go Hoyas!
