Hoyanation and friends in Hoyaland I wanted to share my son, Chavis' video intro with you. This blog is dedicated to my son Chavis, Hoyas and Hoyanation and friends.  I was glad I finally found someone to put some of his freshman high school highlights together.

Some old Hoya newspaper clippings from the 2007 Big East Championship and Final Four

I was thinking of the 2006-2007 Big East Championship and the Final Four.  I decided to go through some old Hoya newspaper clippings that I kept from the Washington Post and Washington Times.  Going through these newspaper clippings brings back lots of Hoya memories and just think it wasn't that long ago.  As I kept going through the clippings a rush of hypeness overcame me, and I was thinking, "hey, we can do this again, and do it better this time".  I'm always hopeful optimistic and very supportive of the Hoyas every year and it gives me great pleasure to represent them in every great way I can.  I have many clippings so I hope I don't bore you.  Hoyanation, let's raise up and support the Hoyas because....WE ARE...GEORGETOWN!

Hoyas start out slow then quickly glide to the finish

Jason Clark glides in on defender teammate Julian Vaughn below

Hoyanation, the Hoyas vs. Savannah game was aired on 570 AM radio here in the Washington, DC, area.  The Hoyas go on to victory against the Southern Athletic Independent Conference (SAIC) Savannah State Tiger team 63-44 with great team play".  Everyone scored and contributed to team play.  Jason Clark led all scorers hitting four 3 pointers in one half and was deemed player of the game, but to Jason it's about "team", sacrifice and determination for his team, this is part of what makes Jason so special as a player, person and student.  As Coach Thompson credits Jason's stellar play he also said these great things about Jason, “the number of points Jason scores is irrelevant,” Thompson said. “He plays great defense and he’s a very unselfish player. He’s at the core of what we’re doing this year. He’s going to have a lot more than 14 as we go along.”

Voice of the Hoyas Rick Chvotkin

Listening to the game on the radio hearing The Voice of the Hoyas Rich Chvotkin for the first time this season was a joy.  Some of the things he says makes me laugh, for instance when Jason Clark made the third of his three pointer, Chvotkin says, "bombs away", later on during the game he said, "as Jason Clark brings the ball up he is "eyeball to eyeball pressure" with the defender guarding him".  Hoyas on fire!  Rich Chvotkin says after a Chris Wright 3 on a 19-4 run in the first half.  At the 6:16 mark in the first half Jason Clark's 4th 3 ball had Rich Chvotkin excited, saying, "Jason Clark is on fire"!

Hoyas glide to calm the Green Wave in a 74-58 win in first game of the "dream season"

GLIDE - PLEASURE
WE ARE GEORGETOWN!

Hoya Greg Monroe nice and low with the dribble for the explosive move to the basket against a Tulane player in last nights first game of the season

Hoyanation, I know you couldn't wait for this first game. I couldn't wait either.  I'm so glad the Hoyas have started "the dream season".  It's about "redemption" for the Hoyas.  Remembering, fixing, communicating, working hard, no excuses, execution  It didn't matter who the Hoyas were playing.  I think Hoyanation wanted to see so many things from our Hoyas and we did.  Before this game, I was thinking, "this first game against Tulane is just as big for the Hoyas as it is for Tulane".  If you go to the previous article you can hear comments from senior point guard Kevin Sims about how big it would be for Tulane to beat a team of Georgetown's caliber and tradition.  The reporter that was talking with Tulane point guard Kevin Sims mentioned something about the Hoyas not running and pushing the ball.  I think he now knows the Hoyas do a little bit which adds up to the big picture, a win.  Also, there's a video of Coach Dave Dickerson saying his team's "lack of effort" the previous practice before gameday.

Last night, I was watching the game on Tulane's All-Access Channel, the game almost over, I hear loud chants of Hoya Saxa, Hoya Saxa, Hoya Saxa, sounding like sweet music to my ears.  Hoyanation, I'm singing, Let's Go Hoyas sing along with me!  Let's Go Hoyas, Let's Go Hoyassss!.  LOL!  The first half was a gut and mental check going into the locker room at halftime.  In the second half the Hoyas gut was checked and it was all Hoyas.  The Hoyas stepped up on every aspect of their game.  Defense, aggressiveness, rebounding, execution and will to win propelled the Hoyas to a good to great second half.  The team play and communication from staff to players and among players were awesome, everyone contributed in one way or another.

Hoyanation, when a Hoya fell down the other Hoyas sprinted over to help each other up and off of the court.  I thought this was great for the cohensiveness and morale of the team which also builds great comraderie amongst teammates and staff.   The gliding Hoya troopers dug in.  It was indeed a great homecoming for Greg Monroe.  I guess Greg's mom's gumbo, fried fish, and other great dishes gave the Hoyas what they needed, a great home cooked meal from da Bayou and some great smart, tough, team basketball.

I really enjoyed seeing the Hoyas in action last night,  They were a sight to see.  This game was a good early tough test for the redemption Hoyas.  Everyone contributed in one way or another.  That's what it's all about playing all our players and them knowing when their number is being called and responding with a "sense of urgency".  Great job Hoyas!

Here are some photos from last nights action in Hoyas win

HOYANATION, THE WAIT IS OVER, THE HOYAS GLIDE INTO REDEMPTION FORM FOR FIRST GAME OF SEASON!

GLIDE - PLEASURE
WE ARE GEORGETOWN!

HOYANATION IS READY!

HOYA SAXA!

Hoyanation, the start of Hoya redemption "dream season" is here.  The 2009-2010 Geogetown Hoyas glide into the new college basketball 2009-2010 season with confidence, determination, sense of urgency and hope.  Tonight in the Hoyas will play Tulane in an away game for their first game of the season at 9:00 on the campus of the Tulane University.  For the Hoyas, this won't be a tune-up game.  This first game will mean more to the Hoyas and Hoyanation than in the past.  At last season's end the Hoyas had to dig deep inside themselves and do some soul searching to really find "faith in adversity".  I think they've found the faith, now the Hoyas just have put it out there on the hardwood.  I'm cofident they will.  I'm sure Hoyanation will be optimistic, but Hoyanation will be very supportive of the Hoyas in every aspect.  This will be a homecoming for Greg Monroe.  Greg Monroe attended Helen Cox High School in Lousiana where he won a state title and was the 2008 Louisiana High School Player of the Year.

Newspaper quote:

“I’m definitely going to be excited to go home, definitely looking forward to that,” Monroe said. “But you know once the ball’s tossed up, it’s going to be game time. It’s going to be time to focus. It’s going to be a chance to get our first win.”

Norma Dixon Monroe has been cooking up a storm in her Gretna kitchen, preparing for her son's return.  "(My mom's) invited the whole team to come over and eat dinner, so there'll be a big dinner at my house when we get in (today), " Monroe said.

The menu?  "Everything under the sun as far as I've been told, " said sophomore Greg Monroe. "[My mom] definitely is going to make gumbo; she made it for them last year [during a visit to campus] and everybody loved it. She's going to do that again and a bunch of New Orleans-style dishes -- some stuff they normally don't eat if they're not from New Orleans."

"Oh yes, I've got gumbo, red beans and rice, stuffed peppers again, fettucini, " said Norma Monroe. "I've got some turkey necks and corn and potatoes, fried fish...I ordered a king cake for them. I'm giving them a taste of New Orleans."

Over 100 family, friends, and neighbors will be at the game to see Greg on Friday.  Coverage of the game will be shown here, I think you have to order the game.  Copy and paste:
