2009-2010 LADY HOYAS!

Hoyanation and friends, the Lady Hoyas are continiving to live their dream season with a secon-half storm against the Lady Redfoxes of Marist, 2010 MAAC Women's Basketball Champions.

"I told them at halftime that if you don't come out in the first five minutes of this game and knock Marist off their feet that we were going to allow them to stay in the game," Hoyas coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. "A team like Marist, you can't let them stay in the game and keep them close because they are a really good team."

They Lady Hoyas did!  End of story.  McNutt scored 14 points and Tia Magee added 11 for the Hoyas (26-6), who were making just their second trip to the NCAA tournament and first since 1993.  "We've been through adversity," Magee said. "We overcome a lot, a lot of crazy situations.  It was just a matter of calming down.  Everybody's excited and the jitters were going stuff like that. Once we calmed down, we were fine. But the start was a little surprising, but we held it together."

Now it's on to the next one for the Hoyas.  The 5th seeded Hoyas will glide with lots confidence and toughness into the 2nd of the NCAA's pound for pound against the 4th seeded Baylor Bears with a chance to move into the Sweet 16.  Let's Go Hoyas!  Hoya Saxa!

The Hoya redemption dream season comes to a close in the NCAA's to the Ohio University Bobcats

SUCCESSFUL - DRAKE & TREY SONGZ
SUCCESSFUL HOYAS!

Hoyanation and friends, the Hoya redemption season has come in the NCAA March Madness Tournament.  In all said, "the Hoyas have redeemed themselves this season, but dream continues".  The Hoyas lose in the first round to Mid-Atlantic Conference Tournmanet champion the Ohio University Bobcats (22-14) 97-83.  The Bobcats came out of the gates extremely determined with lots of energy and determination.  Meanwhile, the Hoyas looked as if they were tired.  It seemed playing in the Big East took it's toll on the Hoyas, although they were determined and focused.  I kind of suspected it early in the first half, but I knew my Hoyas would make a run soon and they did, but it was not enough.  “We really thought we could make some noise in this tournament,” Georgetown guard Austin Freeman said. “We really didn’t imagine we would be one-and-done.”  Monroe, the 6-foot-11 center with NBA prospects, appeared to lean toward returning for his junior season.  “I’m ready to go back and see how I can help my team next year,” he said.  Greg Monroe had 19 points and 13 rebounds.  Chris Wright led the third-seeded Hoyas (23-11) with 28 points.

You can't take anything away from the Bobcats.  Ohio seized the lead early on its 3-point shooting and never had a serious letdown the rest of the way.  Give them credit they earned their keep.  Bobcat Coach Groce has prepared for our offense before as an assistant coach with Ohio State when the Hoyas lost to them in the Final Four 2007.  "We may not be a better team, just got to be a better team on a given night,” Bassett said."  Armon Bassett scored 32 points to lead the 14th-seeded Bobcats in the first round of the Midwest Regional.

These are some of the things I put on my Facebook page after the game:

"Come on home fellas, been long long season, I know my Hoyas are tired, come on home and hold your head up high, don't worry about what people say, you acheived lots of success and respect this season! Let's Goooooo!!!"

"It's funny I don't see anyone until my Hoyas lose, where ya'll at when we win, probably somewhere hating, but check this. I'ma keep reppin my Hoyas for my son Chavis. Folks don't know what's it about for me, it's all about my Hoyas and my son, so please don't come on my page and ask me about my Hoyas".

The are some Comments from my Facebook friends:

I'm with you Kent!!  -  Shad Marciano

Been a Hoya since 1974 season. Proud of it!!! Kent, you are a great fan and supporter. Proud to be associated with you.  - .....We Are Georgetown...... - Vencen Horsley

My Comments back to them:

Thank you fellas, thank you so much, I'm so proud of their hearts and courage, that young team achieved lots of success and respect this season, now it's time to come home and relax, study and keep working hard in the gym because ti's always basketball season on the Hilltop because WE ARE...

Comment to Zakia Wright, sister of Chris Wright:

Don't worry about these folks Zakia, just as long as we keep it all in perspective and understand these are college students trying to get their grind on, we just support them, but some folks don't understand and take things out of context...

Yup, I'm glad I keep it all perspective but some folks just all messed up in the head and don't know and realize what life is all about, it's about winning and losing and how you handle losses. Believe me, I know, especially when I lost my one and only son to cancer...this is why I support the Hoyas so much because of my son and my Hoyas...WE ARE...

Good season for the Hoyas! We had to win enough games to get to the NCAA tournament...we made it, that's a big accomplishment in itself, we didn't make it last season, sooooo the Hoyas do not suk! I would like to see some of these folks say this to their faces, these are college student first then basketball players, can't twist that up by no means...Let's Goooooo!

Comment from Zakia Wright:

Kent..u said it all there my dude!! - Zakia Wright

Hoyanation and friends it's been really good I tell ya, big ups to Coach Thompson, Coach Henry, Coach Hunter, Coach Cox, team managers students Jack, and everyone else involved wiith the Hoya basketball program.  I love you all.  Don't worry, we'll be back!  In the mean time the Hoyas will continue to GLIDE!

Hoyas look to tame the Bobcats in 1st round of the NCAA's March Madness

SHOWDOWN - BLACK EYED PEAS
I'M READY FOR THE SHOWDOWN HOYAS!
LET'S GO HOYAS!

VS.

Well, Hoyanation and friends, this is the moment I've been patiently waiting for, and I know this is the moment you've been waiting for.  Tomorrow the mighty Hoyas (23-10) glide into March Madness against the Ohio University Bobcats (21-14) winners of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.  The Hoya redemption dream season has continued and I'm very excited for my Hoyas.  The Hoyas come off a 3-1 record in the prestigious Big East Tournament.  Their play was greatly appreciated and well-respected among Hoyanation and friends.  The Hoyas played with courage and great poise.  Big wins came against South Florida and Syracuse and Marquette.  However, Georgetown has one of the best inside players in the country in Greg Monroe, along with Chris Wright and Freeman in the backcourt.  No team will find that easy to match up with, which will make the Hoyas a tough out in the NCAA's.  "I have to say, I've never been more excited to play a basketball game in my life," said sophomore center Greg Monroe.  "It's the NCAA Tournament. Of course, it's my very first time so I'm anxious to play in the tournament.  The Hoyas will go into the NCAA"s as focused, determined and play with a sense of urgency as they've ever been all season.  I can't wait to get this party started.

Players are made in the off season

DREAMER - K'NAAN
DREAMS DO COME TRUE HOYAS!

Hoyanation and friends the Hoya redemption dream season starts here at the prestigious James "Jabbo" Kenner Memorial Summer League on the campus of Georgetown University in McDonough Gymnasium for the mighty Hoyas.  Named after one of the founders and first director of the Metropolitan Police Boys' and Girls' Club of Washington DC.  For some fifty years, James" Jabbo" Kenner, whose powerful punches as a professional prize fighter earned him the name "JABBO", fought to help the young and disadvantaged in the ashington Metropolitan area.  He began as an amateur boxer at age fifteen and for three years was the D.C. Amateur Athletic Champion.  For nearly 20 years the Kenner league has attracted high school, college and professional players from throughout the area to come together in the off season and play in a team oriented atmosphere that is both competitive and safe. It has also provided fans, friends and family the chance to see great hoops action in air conditioned comfort.

In 1937 he helped found and was the first to direct the Metropolitan Boys' Club of Washington, DC.  Mr. Kenner helped old and young alike. In the course of his life he had taken into his home twelve foster children and four senior citizens.  Many of the persons whom he helped were so moved by his example that they decided to dedicate their own lives to the aid of people in places such as Haiti, Scotland, Holland, Israel and Africa.  James Kenner received an Honorary Doctorate from Georgetown University in 1981.  His death in 1983 ended a lifetime dedicated to helping people in the Washington Metropolitan area.

The list of former Kenner leaguers includes Allen Iverson, Jerome Williams, Mike Sweetney, Othella Harrington, Alonzo Mourning, and Dikembe Mutombo to name but a few.  Its great competition and exciting for the fans and guess what it's freeeeeee.

Here are some photos from the beginning of the Hoya redemption dream season.  As they say, "players are made in offseason, and It's Always Basketball Season here on the Hilltop.

HOYA SAXA!

Jubliant Hoyas' Jason Clark, Austin Freeman and Hoyanation and friends watching Selection Sunday 2010 on CBS

Hoyanation and friends, as you know, it's March Madness, it's time to dance.  I got my dancing shoes, do you?  I you do!  Cool!  We're going to dance the night away.  March Madness is like Christmas to me.  Nothing cannot top March Madness esepcially when my mighty Hoyas are about make this run to the 2010 National Championship.  After last season ended I couldn't wait and I knew the Hoyas would have a redemption dream season, yes, part of my dream was for the Hoyas to make it back to March Madness, they did, now, the second part of my dream is for the Hoyas is to win the National Championship.

I know it's the Hoyas' dream to win a National Championship, I just want to support them in any way I can.  Ever since the Hoyas were little boys they've dreamed about this moment and now this great opportunity to play in the in this prestigous March Madness Tournament and win it all.  The Hoyas work all summer, fall.  All the sprints, all the lifting you do is to get to this," Head Coach John Thompson III said.  "This is why you play college basketball."  This is what dreams are made of.

Georgetown (23-10) will face 14th-seeded Ohio University (21-14), the unlikely champions of the Mid-American Conference in a first-round game at the Dunkin Donut Center in Providence, R.I., on Thursday.  Georgetown missed out on a bid last year and lost in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament.

"I'm ready," said Monroe, named to the Big East's all-tournament team, along with Chris Wright. "I mean, to me, it's a year late, so I've been waiting for this chance. I'm very excited."

While Coach Thompson said his coaching staff planned to spend Sunday night studying tape of Ohio to prepare their players for Thursday's game, Chris "Lumpy" Wright, the Hoyas' junior point guard, was well aware of the Bobcats' leading scorer, point guard Armon Bassett, who played two seasons for Indiana and sat out last season as a transfer.  "They're a very good team," Wright said of Ohio.  " Bassett is a very good point guard and very capable scorer."

"We're very happy to be back in the tournament," junior guard Austin Freeman said. "Everybody is ready to play right now. What we did in the [Big East] tournament has given us a lot of momentum."

Hoyas go 3-1 in Big East Championship game

GOTTA GIVE IT UP - MARVIN GAYE
GOTTA GIVE IT UP FOR MY HOYAS!
HOYAS SAXA BABY!

2010 Big East Tournament Championship game Georgetown vs. West Virginia

Hoyanation and friends, it was a "great" Big East Tournament run by the mighty Hoyas.  Although the Hoyas lost to the West Virginia Mountaineers, I really enjoyed the moments.  Their hearts and courage are well respected you can believe that.  While walking around New York City with my Georgetown gear  on all you could hear is people saying Georgetown, Georgetown, people walking by me saying let's go Georgtown, then I would say my signature two words Let's Goooooo!  (The six o's are my late son's initials in his name Chavis), lol.  Oh, what a feeling, MORE THAN A FEELING!  I really enjoyed seeing Hoyanation and friends at the World's Greatest Arena - Madison Square Garden.  Spike Lee sporting the Georgtown sweatshirt, I was like yeahhhhhhhh Spike.  I was waving my "G" Hoya Saxa towel all day.  I was sitting in front of  former Georgetown president Father O'Donovan, and he was encouraging me to wave my towel, and that really had me pumped up.  I was like ah man, it's totally on now, lol.  I had a great time at the Garden and I love my Hoyas and Georgetown University.

HOYA SAXA!

MORE THAN A FEELING - BOSTON
HAHA LET'S GO HOYAS I GOT MORE THAN A FEELING!

Against a West Virginia team that gave them absolute fits at the offensive end and even more trouble on the defensive glass, Georgetown still nearly pulled off a last-minute comeback thanks to its own defensive effort and overall hustle.

If anything, the lesson as they await their NCAA Tournament fate is that the crisp and, at times, mesmerizing way they play offense is what broadcasters will talk about endlessly and is what will spin the heads of their early round opponents. But, ultimately, Georgetown must be prepared to grind down its opponents and willingly ugly up a game, the way it did late against West Virginia, to make a deep NCAA run.

The Hoyas’ concerns over a lack of focus and their own unpredictability are gone, having been swept into a Manhattan gutter. And their depth and stamina won’t be tested in the NCAA Tournament like it was the last four days. There’s also no shame in losing to a West Virginia team that has been in the top 10 all season long and should be considered for a No. 1 seed.

Greg Monroe, Chris Wright, Austin Freeman and the rest of their teammates can sit down to watch the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday with their heads held high, knowing they’ve done nearly everything possible to restore any lost faith in their postseason potential and knowing that they will be a very, very tough team to beat in the coming weeks.
