In the stretch run in Big East play Hoyas lose to the Fighting Irish

STAY STRONG HOYAS!

The morning started off good for me.  I tried to get the Verizon a little bit earlier but was held up in traffic inside McDonalds for my breakfast three sausage burritos, but it was well worth the wait.  On the way to the game on the metro I was thinking how bad I wanted the Hoyas to win this game.  The Hoyas where wearing the 2010 Michael Jordan Silver Anniversary uni's and kicks.  One thing I noticed is that Austin Freeman did not start.  I figured he might of been injured or sick.  I do know we sure missed one of our fearless leaders today.  First and foremost I hope Austin is feeling better.  I do like his heart in trying to help his team out anyway he could.   Notre Dame played a great game and won.  It seemed like everytime they shot the ball in went in, and it didn't matter where the Irish shot it from the ball went in.  Well, anyway I'm looking forward to a big "W" Monday night on the road against the West Virginia Mountaineers, who are coming off a win against Cincinnati.

I'm going to root big time for my Hoyas and hope they come out very hungry and get the win.  I know it will be a very hostile atmosphere at WVU, but I remember how hostile it was when the Hoyas played at the Zoo (Pitt).  The Hoyas overcame that hostile environment and came away with the win.  I think they just have to go back and remember how focused and determined they were early and midway through the season.  I guess it's almost like getting refreshed.  The Hoyas just have to make smarter decisions in tough situations and push the rock in those situations especially with the opposing team with 10 team fouls.  I enjoyed and always enjoy seeing my Hoyas and look forward to Monday night's game with the Mountaineers.  Go Hoyas!

GET READY FOR THE SHOWDOWN
HOYA SAXA!

VS.

Hoyanation and friends Notre Dame (18-10  7-8 BE) will play Georgetown tomorrow with senior forward Luke Harangody’s injury status still in doubt. The captain has missed the past three games with a bone bruise in his knee.  The Irish are coming off a big home game win against Big East foe the Pittsburgh Panthers where they made 10 of 18 three pointers.  The Hoyas (19-7  9-6 BE) are coming off of a big road game win on the road against the Louisville Cardinals where Austin Freeman put his team no his back for the "W".   The Hoyas look to turn it up against the Irish for the stretch run in Big East play tomorrow.

Hoyas scatch and claw their way to victory behind Austin Freeman's 29 point performance

ALL I DO IS WIN HOYAS!
HOYA SAXA!

"If things didn't go well and fall in the first half, I just wanted to stay aggressive in the second half," Freeman said.  Freeman got 24 of his 29 points after halftime and the Hoyas bounced back from consecutive losses with a 70-60 victory over Louisville on Tuesday night.

Greg Monroe, who had prime position in the paint all game, provided most of the scoring early getting 12 of his 16 points before halftime.

"We played a perfect first half and they played a perfect second half," Louisville coach Rick Pitino said. They prevailed because of their shot-making ability.

"He's an aggressive player that's not going to make bad decisions," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said.  We saw a few things against their zone when we could get some shots.  It was good to come in, to be down at halftime in a tough environment and weather through it.  We don't take a look at the big picture, Thompson said.  We just want to win the next game.

Hoyas glide to Louisville Kentucky to take on the Cardinals in Big East action tonight

THE GREATEST

Hoyanation and friends the Hoyas travel to Louisville, Kentucky to take on the Cardinals.  Louisville, Kentucky is the boyhood home of "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali.  Muhammad Ali happens to be my boyhood idle of all time.  Everytime I hear someone mention Louisville, the first thing I think of is Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali).

The Hoyas are looking to continue to use the heart, toughness, courage, determination and sense of urgency they used in the second half of Thursday night's comeback game against Syracuse in tonight's matchup against the Louisville Cardinals.    Although the Hoyas came up short in the game against the Orangemen the mighty Hoyas are looking for a "knockout" tonight in Louisville.

Hoyas overcomes Syracuse's wrath but comes up short in 74-71 loss

Post game with coach and players

I enjoyed the fun and exciting Hoya game, no matter the outcome, I feel the same as Coach Thompson about this team tonight.  The fought hard and came back and fell a little short.  Awesome, now let's go get this win at Louisville.  Hoya Saxa!

“Normally I come in here and the first thing I say is, ‘Questions,’” Thompson said. “I’m proud of our guys. Losing is hell and after a loss there is nothing but misery and pain, and there is misery and pain right now. But I’m proud of how our guys responded, and … this program, this team does not believe in moral victories, but I’m just proud of our guys. I think [Syracuse] is a very good team that played very well tonight. We dug a hole for ourselves and fought and had a shot to win, but that’s the way the ball bounces.”

“We played them the first time and spent too much time on the perimeter,” Thompson said. “This time off of penetration and off throwing it in we got the ball in both halves into the meat of their zone. We just got some unlucky bounces.”

“One thing about this team, we believe in each other,” said Chris Wright, who had 20 points. “We believe in perseverance and climbing out of any struggle.”

Hoyas glide into action refocusing on their dream season in a Big East rematch with the Syracuse Orangemen

IT'S TIME FOR WAR HOYAS!
BEAT THE CUSE!
HOYA SAXA!

VS.

Well, Hoyanation and friends, here we go again, according to ESPN it's Rivalry Week and the mighty Hoyas' second Big East battle with the Syracuse Orangemen this season with the Orange winning the first Big East battle.  To Hoyanation and friends these games between these two teams are considered "Big East Basketball Wars" and Classi's, and this game tommorrow night will be no different.  Both Big East team's are coming off of losses with Syracuse losing at home to the Louisville Cardinals and the Hoyas losing to Rutgers.  On ESPN's Big Monday I watched the UConn Huskies defeat the Villanova Wildcats in Philly.

I think the Hoyas know how "extremely" important to know they now in the home stretch of Big East Conference play, and it's time to turn up the volume and keep it steady and loud.

Quote:

"As a group we have to get to a point where we know every game is tough," Hoyas Coach John Thompson III said, "every single, solitary game is tough, particularly on the road, and we have to come with a certain level of attentiveness in [the Big East]. Every team is talented. Every team is well-coached. Every game, every day, you have to be at the top of your game to win."

Hoyas lose to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Valentine's Day 71-68

"As a group we have to get to a point where every game is tough," Hoyas Coach John Thompson III said, "every single, solitary game is tough, particularly on the road, and we have to come with a certain level of attentiveness in [the Big East]. Every team is talented. Every team is well-coached. Every game, everyday, you have to be at the top of your game to win."  The "sense of urgency" has to be there on and off the court no matter what is said or read.  As Coach Thompson states time and time again, "it's about us, we do what we do"!   Hoyanation and friends we all know the college life is about learning and growing and maturing.
There is only time for a "surge of urgency, now" with a "sense of urgency".   Looking at my schedule we are in the final stretch of Big East play, just three Big East games left.  Wow, I think everybody took their bumps and bruises in the Big East conference for sure.  There's just no doubt about it.  It's about who comes out on top in the end, and I just hope and pray it's the Georgetown Hoyas because WE ARE...GEORGETOWN!

“If you had been here at practice, we were unbelievable,” Rutgers Head Coach Fred Hill said after the game. “The focus, the energy and the intensity was unbelievable. It was game-like.  I knew we would play with physicality, great intensity and great emotion.”

There was definitely more intensity," Monroe said of the difference between Sunday's game and the last time the Hoyas played Rutgers. "Basically they (Rutgers) just wanted it more than us.  It wasn't anything Xs and Os. They didn't do anything different. They didn't make any new plays or anything like that. They just wanted it more than us today."
Good sounds I found to listen check them out...

It's the second time around as Hoyas face the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights on Valentine's Day

SECOND TIME AROUND
LET'S GO HOYAS!
BEAT RUTGERS!

VS.

Hoyanation and friends, this is a quote from a Rutgers player Jonathan Mitchell frpm Tuesday night's game against Division II Caldwell College.

"After an eight-point win over Division 2 Caldwell College Tuesday night, Jonathan Mitchell felt there was no sense smoothing anything over.  So the Rutgers co-captain uttered the honest truth.  “We saw the name ‘Caldwell College’ and that they were Division 2 and we kind of underestimated them a little bit,” Mitchell said. “We took them too lightly and they came out and gave us a game.”

Question, how can you underestimate any team when you have a record of (12-12  2-9 BE)?  15th in the Big East?  Personally, I can't figure this one out.  Score!  70-62 barely Rutgers!

Although the Hoyas (18-5 8-4 BE) are ranked 7th in the land, and 4th in the Big East they will not "underestimate" the underachieving Scarlet Knights.  This will be the second meeting this season between the two Big East teams with the Hoyas winning the first game at home 88-63.  The Hoyas know this is an important Big East road game just as any home or away game in the Big East.  The Hoyas' team play, staying focus and determined will benefit them as it has so far this season and I am very confident this will continue because WE ARE...GEORGETOWN!

Hoyas travel to Providence and glide away with "W" off of Greg Monroe's 12 assists

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST

Hoyanation and friends sitting here during our third snowfall of the season, actually the second Snowmaggedon I ust finished watching the mighty Hoyas (18-5  8-4 BE) in a Big East duel with Providence Friars (13-11  5-7 BE) and come away with the 79-70 win.  I enjoyed watching my Hoyas.  The game was another true Big East road game for the Hoyas and they prevailed no matter what it took.  The game was scrappy, but the Hoyas figured it out with great "team" play once again.  The Hoyas redemption dream season is great experience for Hoyanation and friends.  Greg Monroe (12 pts. 7 rebs., 12 assists) played a very intelligent game tonight giving out a dozen assists.  His play along with the Hoyas was very unselfish.  Junior point guard Chris Wright (21 pts.) led the the Hoyas in scoring and showed great leadership throughout the game taking the lead at the 11:58 mark.  Julian "JuJu" Vaughn  (19 pts. 3 rebs.) and Austin Freeman (17 pts.) also contributed to Hoyas win.  Sophomore Jason Clark (6 pts. 5 rebs.) had four fouls and had to sit on the bench in crucial stretches of the game, but once again his teammates have each other's back. The Hoyas continue to play hard as a unit and unselfish.  It's the little things the Hoyas do that add up to the big picture and that picture is shaping up into something really special because WE ARE...GEORGETOWN!

“If it turns out it was the easy game, I’ll eat my words,” Davis said Tuesday night after the Hoyas beat Providence 79-70 in the first of four straight games the Friars will play against team ranked in the top seven. “But there’s no reason that team can’t go deep in the NCAA tournament. I hope they do.”

The Hoyas glide up to north to face the Providence Friars in Big East action tomorrow night

GLIDEHOYAS!

VS.

Hoyanation and friends, once again the mighty Hoyas ( 17-5  7-4) will be on the road again to Rhode Island to visit the Providence Friars (12-11  4-7 BE).  The Friars dropped their third game in a row last weekend with a hard-fought 82-79 defeat against Marquette. That left Providence at 4-7 in the Big East, in 12th place in the 16-team league.  The Friars have lost their last three games against Cincinnati, Syracuse and Marquette.  It doesn't get any easier for the Friars going into tomorrow nights game against the mighty Hoyas.  Although the Friars record speaks for itself the Hoyas remained focus, determined and ready to play this game with a "sense of urgency".  The Hoyas last played the Friars at home on Jan 10, 2009, and came out with the win 82-72.

The Hoyas are coming off a big win againt the #2 team in the land, the Villanova Wildcats.  This game was a very impressive game played by the Hoyas as they snow plowed the Wildcats to a 103-90 victory on blizzardry snowy day in the nation's capital at the Verizon.  Although D.C. had record breaking snow, this did not stop the crowd of about 10,000 to cheer the mighty Hoyas onto victory.  The student section played a key in this win also as the Hoyas knew their peers had their backs.  "I was very surprised to see them come out. I didn’t think there was going to be a lot of people here, but them being here really helps us out and really brings a lot of energy to our play.”—Georgetown guard Jason Clark on the crowd at the Villanova game.

I guess you could say the Hoyas have all the right moves in all the right places because WE ARE GEORGETOWN!  These two songs played on ESPN after timeout before commerical break, nice!

The #2 Villanova Wildcats get snow plowed by the might Hoyas on big snowy day in D.C.103-90

THE BIG PAYBACK HOYAS!

I really enjoyed this game Hoyanation and friends.  It was a game for the books.  The Hoyas 17-5  7-4 BE) put the dogs on the #2 Villanova Wildcats (21-1  9-1 BE) today in a Big East grudge match between the two highly ranked teams.  Jason Clark was 6 of 6 from the field and made all four of his 3-point tries during a 17-point first half and continue to play hard on both ends as he done all season long.  I could tell Jason Clark wanted this game by his play and demeanor, he's a true warrior.   The smooth 3 ball shooting Hoya lead his team in so many ways with his great "team play".  Austin Freeman scored 25 points, Jason Clark had 24, and the Hoyas forced 16 first-half turnovers in a 103-90 victory Saturday that ended Villanova’s 11-game winning streak and ruined the Wildcats’ perfect Big East record.

The Hoyas went 39 for 50 at the free throw line, led by Greg Monroe , who went 11 of 14 and scored 19 points. Villanova scored only 17 points on 23 free throws.  Julian "JuJu" Vaughn and Jerrelle Benimon did a great job at the stripe also.  The Georgetown student section was packed. Those Hoyas fans who trudged through an estimated 2 feet of snow were rewarded with a game they will remember forever.

THANK YOU SO MUCH HOYANATION, WE KNEW YOU COULDN'T LET US DOWN HOYA SAXA!

Hoyas looking to cool off the hot South Florida Bulls

GLIDE - PLEASURE
GLIDEHOYAS!
HOYA SAXA!

VS.

Hoyanation and friends, it was such a dandy weekend in nation's capital this past weekend.  The big game against Duke was exciting and energetic as expected.  It was more energetic than normal because our President was in attendance.  The game was considered the "Gray Out", and that's just what it was as the Hoyas sent the Duke Bluedevils home on a snowy evening.  A crowd of 20,000 plus attended the big game so you can  imagine what the atmosphere was like.  Hoyanation was alive big time.  On my birthday (Feb. 3) lol, the mighty Hoyas (16-4  6-3 BE) look to continue the "Hoya redemption dream season" by cooling off the hot handed South Florida Bulls (14-7 4-5 BE).  The Bulls have won their last two road games (Cincinnati and Providence) and look to upset the Hoyas.  The Hoyas go into in this game with a bundle of confidence, but remain focused, determined and will keep playing with a "sense of urgency" no matter what the case is or who we play.  Austin Freeman lead the Hoyas in scoring at (16.2 pts.) and Dominic Jones (22.1 pts.) lead the Bulls in scoring.  This Big East game is just as big as any game we've played this year, so let's have another "Gray Out" tomorrow night in the nation's capital.  Let's Go Hoyas!  I can hear Hoyanation rocking, let's go Hoyas, let's go Hoyas, I'm as hyped for this game as any other.  Hoya Saxa!!!
